987.1 Cayman S Purchase Advice
Hello
I have been searching for a Cayman S for two months now and haven't found one yet that did it for me. I came across two interesting examples this week.
Car 1)
- 2006 Cayman S
- 46'500km / 28'900 miles
- Only had 4'500 km / 2900 miles done in the first five years and no service between 2006 - 2011. From there on it has been serviced every two years.
- 38'900$ listing price, owner would let it go for 36.
Pros:
- Low mileage, less corrosion underneath than most 10+ year old Caymans
Cons:
- The boot / trunk panel gaps differ in size (poor alignment, damage..?)
Side by side comparison panel gap
- Excessive grime on wheels and rust particles on the brakes
rust particles on the brakes
- Expensive
- Corrosion on the exhaust
Car 2)
- 115'000 km / 71'500 miles
- Had bore scoring in cylinder 5 and 6, therefore a new upper motor (hull motor) has been done by the official Porsche Center. The repair amounted to 20'000$, luckily it was covered by the Porsche Approved Warranty.
- The new engine has been just replaced and is in the run in phase now.
- 25'500$
Pros:
- Low Price
- New engine
- Serviced every two years
- Comes with 13 months of Porsche Approved Warranty
- Interior is in great condition
Cons:
- Corrosion underneath (Is it just minor corrosion or is there corrosion in the sheet, the wheel arches or is any paint bulging?)
Minor rust or severe corrosion?
- Oily brakes & oil behind the brakes where the transmission is
- How did bore scoring affect the car and how will it affect resale?
- High mileage
- Corrosion on the exhaust
- Stone chips on the front part
Overall paint condition is decent for a 115'000km car
On Saturday, I will look at one more car and then hopefully choose one that has a good price and a good condition! Please let me know what you think of these two cars and how I can evaluate the severeness of rust / corossion for future inspections.
Thank you very much for your help.

Thanks! So I don't have to worry about the colour underneath the car? I thought that it's rust...
Is the new engine / the previously occurring bore scoring an issue?
Thank you.
