Can 400 HP be done reliably in a 987.2 Spyder

Does the IPD plenum and 82mm GT3 throttle body make any real power with or without a tune + exhaust or is it snake oil? I do realize you'd likely have to custom tune to take advantage but even then curious if they are effective. I see a lot of conflicting reports but seems more on the negative side lately.

+1 on this. Couldn't agree with you more. Like the top a lot more, a heck of a lot cheaper, arguably better handling... which means a healthy budget for modifications if you so desire.
I'd highly recommend a Softronics tune before anything. For less than a grand you get a pretty proven tune. I love it in my car. I'm likely going to add a PDK cooler from BGB, but that will be the only other mod since I have PSE and don't feel the need for any more power.

Very satisfied with my Fabspeed race headers / Cobb tune on my 981 BGTS. Flashed it right before taking to dealer to install headers, have not had a single CEL in a year or so of operation. It absolutely RIPS, especially with PSE open, sound is glorious. When I pulled into pcar dealer 70th anniversary event folks ran over to my car and had to look under and see what was going on. Didn't dyno before and after but there is no doubt in my mind it easily makes a good 30 plus HP more. Had to wait for the headers to be fabricated, but well worth it. Good to be able to go back to stone stock if necessary but unlikely.

I currently have 330 RWHP on a Dynajet 424 awd dyno with a 3.4l with fab speed race, ipd and gt3 tb plus a tune on GT100 fuel. Not sure what that is at the engine but is pretty healthy.

Journey to 400?!
I just finished my modifications of IPD Plenum/TB + full street SOUL exhaust system and a custom COBB tune with pre and post-Dyno results from a Dyno Dynamics dyno. This was on my 2011 PB Spyder. Stock readings were 270 RWHP. Post the listed mods 307.3 RWHP. That's an imputed 380-ish at drivetrain and the car is much brighter and more willing. All was done on 91 pump gas here in AZ. Tuner said he thinks 325-330 at wheels possible with tune for fully loaded gas. I am fighting a stubborn CEL tied to MAF (currently enquiring with IPD to see if they have any ideas - install checked and re-checked).

Adding my results
In my 2009 CS, which had Fabspeed Race Exhaust + IPD Competition Plenum + GT3 TB + Cobb Pro Tune from Fabspeed, the result was +20 HP at the wheels. Keep in mind, it still had the very restrictive stock headers & cats to keep it street legal and hassle-free with state inspections. When I got the 2011 Spyder, I decided to keep it stock, because that's a lot of $ for +20 HP. Even stock, on street tires with stock rotors and Pagid Yellow pads, I'm consistently turning 2:12 at VIR Full Course and my best rolling lap time is 2:10 so far. A friend of mine in a GT4 would pull away from me on the back stretch and front stretch, but not as much as I would have thought. So, that's got me thinking that if I ever blow this engine, I would do a 3.8 swap and have a beast of a machine. At that point, I would do Fabspeed headers along with it and make it a full-time track car. While that's fun to think about, it's not very practical.

400hp is a pipe dream without a solidly built engine from someone like Jake Raby. The best return on investment would be a set of our headers and a software update. This was the first mod I did to my Cayman R and I picked up 27whp max gains with race headers/tune from 303whp stock to 330whp. It went from being lethargic under 4500rpm to a freight train from 2500 to redline, all things considered. For under $3k (catless) it's the best ROI you'll get on the Boxster/Cayman platform. Feel free to shoot me an email or give me a call at 484 883 6197 to have a more in depth discussion about it. Always happy to chat
