987 Updated Shift Cables
Who here have actually got theirs replaced with the updated factory shift cables with the 2 extra brackets?

I have been seriously considering doing this upgrade primarily because the Numeric cables introduce vibration and noise into the cockpit, neither of which enhance the driving experience. I have been wondering if the revised cables from Porsche first of all eliminate the issue with breakage and also improve the feel.
It would be something to do in conjunction with a short shift or GT3 shifter IMHO.

There has been at least one owner here who installed Numeric and went back to OEM due to white noise in the cabin. Numeric suggested he installs shrink tubing over the metal bushings but why did it not come that way from Numeric, I don't know.
I'll let you know how the updated factory cables feel like when I get my car back on Tuesday.

Are you running the stock shifter or have you upgraded?

Stock shifter. I do plan to upgrade the plastic bushings down the road.

The Numerics can be noisy as installed, but with a little work you can quiet them down. After trying a bunch of stuff, the two most important things I did were (1) cover the length of the cables in the engine bay with silicone vacuum hose, and (2) reuse the rubber pass-through bushing in the firewall, and really, really seal it on both sides with Dynamat.
With these changes, the Numeric cables are pretty much as quiet as stock.

+1 MrMoose approach. That's what I did and that keeps the noise about the same as OEM. You can also add a second, larger diameter silicone hose over the sliced OEM to be sure, overlapping the slice.

Just had my local shop install Numeric cables and their short shifter. I highly suggest this combo as it adds a a very positive metallic feel going through the gates to the detent and end plates of each shift. Very positive. The cables are not noticeable due to Dynamat applied to the underside of the console up to the shifter. This upgrade adds another level to my shifting. I just want to shift all the time now, especially downshifting. I need a tune with some crackel in the motor's downshift mapping. The shifter reminds me of my 62 vette with a Hurst shifter. Same type of detent feel, although smoother to facilitate power shifts at 8000 rpm from a roller camshaft engine.

Ok, just got the car back from the dealer. WOW. After putting 130k in my 986 I knew there's something wrong with the 987 shifter the moment I drove the car.
Now each gear "clicks" in with positive feedback, compare to the mushy feeling before where when you put it in any gear you're really not sure if you're actually in that gear. I suspect this will reduce clutch wear as I spend less time riding the clutch.
It feels much closer to 718's shifter I tried at the dealer.
It requires more effort than before to shift, which is a GOOD thing. Very positive.

Ekam thanks for reporting back. I’ll be going this route also and likely combining it with a GT3 shifter for the metal bushings.

Also as a FYI, the factory shift cables come in a 6-7 foot long tube... originally I intended to take it to my indie but since it won't easily fit in the car I've decided to just let the dealer do the work.
