Default a couple of days till mine: 2011 spyder

absolutely thrilled to be so close to driving a Spyder. My first Porsche.
Let's see, there was a 1960 MGA, an Alfa Giulietta, an Alfa Sprint Speciale, an Evo 8 and some cars I don't wish to claim.
The Spyder is such a lovely looker. Afraid the technical aspect of the auto shifter overruled my fondness of manual trans.
Used to like DE days with the evo and alfas, but I'm not sure I can drag myself down to Phoenix for a track day. Either way, my days of track pads, track tires, harnesses, exhaust systems, cats... are long gone.
Just spirited runs when the road is just right, in a beautiful car.

Prescott AZ.: never been in a place with fewer Porsches.

Congratulations. I went on our May PCA drive up to the mountains with 52 cars and there was a white Spyder in our group. It was a beauty and I was glad someone actually decided to drive one on one of our tours. It seems that all the GT cars don't get driven that much around here (at least I don't see them). I see lots of classic turbos on or local driving tours including a guy who brings his beautiful 930. But nobody brings a GT 4 or GT3.

Life is great with a Spyder just waiting for you to take her out when the mood is right . I remember amazing
sunrise/set when i was in Arizona .. quiet empty roads . Thats the ticket , much joy will follow .

Welcome to Spyder Nation! Very astute pick up.

Maybe share some pics and driving impressions when you get a chance.

Enjoy!

Congrats on the Spyder!

Definitely post up some pics once you receive it. More importantly as noted, we all love reading driving impressions.

Personally I still rate the Spyder at the very top of the driving experience offered by a car.

Congrats on your new-to-you Gen 1 Spyder! Details and pics please (Note: we have a thing here on Rennlist - no pics = no car! You've got to post! )

This is will be unlike any car you have owned. There is something just so "right" about these cars. Porsche really nailed it.

I look forward to hearing about your driving experience!

I’ll be curious as to your thoughts on the PDK after you’ve owned the car for a bit. A lot of folks laude the “purity” of the manual driving experience but as a fellow PDK owner, I can assure you that it’s a phenomenal driving experience as well and it’s also somewhat humbling as I know it will shift far better than any human ever could. The technology is worth admiring.

Congrats on the car and like the others have said, pics are a must!

The 987 spyder is a milestone car in the line up of great Porsche road cars. The car is all about refined delicacy. While the GT cars performance is all otherworldly and surreal, the spyder is a car that just charms you with its telepathic steering, analog sport suspension and a brilliant manual gearbox. Sport exhaust and short shift kit are excellent additions you should consider if your car is not equipped with them. Welcome to the gang.

Yes, welcome. You'll find here a bunch of guys who are wildly enthusiastic about both versions.

Congrats.

Congratulations! You will absolutely love the spyder. I'm still in heaven almost a year after buying mine. Enjoy the top. There are certainly days I wish I could have the 2011-style top on the 981. I love how fast it is to get the top up and down but being able to run it bikini style would be amazing, and is a huge factor to why I love driving my Wrangler.

Over 6 years and 39,000 miles later and mine still brings smiles to my face. At the Porsche 70th event at our local dealership my Spyder got as many looks and pictures snapped as the '55 Speedster. Enjoy the ride my wife and I have been all over the country in ours great travel car even for over seventy folks that are still young at heart.
