Would you trade-in your 981 Spyder for the new "Carrera Speedster"
With all the "cleaning lady" rumors out there about an upcoming release of a new 911 Speedster, possibly called the "Carrera Speedster", I have a question. What would you do if you knew you had an allocation for a limited production Speedster....would you trade-in your beautiful 981 Spyder?
For me it's more of "I got no garage space left" than a financial thing and although I know I could just rent a garage, my other half has some "issues" with my owning 3 Porsches along with my humble Tacoma Pick-up. Personally I think I'd do pretty well by trading it the Spyder in, but I absolutely, unequivocally, love the 981 Spyder. But something's gonna have to give because I take delivery of my PTS .2GT3 in a couple months. Also is the GT3 too closely a duplicate of a new Speedster?
I really don't know and just wanted to get some feedback from other Spyder owners. Thanks.

I don't have the exact same situation as you but I have something close. I too have a spouse that's getting slightly irked at all these cars and here I have a deposit on the upcoming 982 Spyder. My issue is, somewhat like yours, is that I LOVE my 987.2 Spyder. It's the perfect small sports car and it's merits over the 981 Spyder and visa versa don't need to be re-debated. Their both GREAT cars. So do we (yourself with the Speedster and myself w the 982 Spyder) really need the latest and greatest? I'm just not sure anymore. Sorry I can't help!

I wouldn't swap my 981 BGTS for a Carrera Speedster.

I have no idea! Once we get a chance to see what the speedster looks like and what the specs are, I'll tell you. That is, of course, if it's even goes into production.

I wouldn't trade my 2000 Tacoma PreRunner for a Carrera Speedster. Oh. Wait. Yes I would. But not my 981 Spyder.
MOST late 911's just look pedestrian to me when compared to my car. There's so damn many of them out there that, unless they're a GT3 or RS or some other exotic variant, they just look the same. My Spyder looks the same as ... well... no other car. The reaction it gets from folks proves the point.

Speedster will be off-limits to mere mortals. Total unobtainium with ADMs through the roof. Even if you can score one, I'd be scared $hitless to drive it and I don't want a highly collectible, investment grade car I won't/can't drive due to depreciation concerns. Life's too short. Can't say I'm a huge fan of the modern Speedsters anyway. Sort of a blatant marketing exercise IMO pimping the true Speedsters of old, with mixed stylistic results IMO. No offense intended to modern Speedster owners, just not my thing.
The Spyder sort of falls into that perfect sweet spot: it's rare enough to be very special, but it's not unobtainium and so pricey that it makes you loathe to drive it because every 1,000 miles results in $10K worth of depreciation. A Spyder can be enjoyed and driven without these concerns and while I know many here have kept their miles insanely low (don't know how you guys do it!), I would bet the majority drive their cars fairly frequently.

Sum up:
- Keep the Spyder.
- Drive worry-free what is probably the most sublime, enjoyable street car Porsche has recently made.
- Pocket that $125K you'd have to fork over to get into the Speedster (on top of your Spyder trade-in), assuming you're extremely well-connected and can even get an allocation.

Yes. Yes I would. Unless I didn't have to and could keep both.
