Found out I have a replacement engine - what IMS do I have?
Hi all
So, I bought my 2005 Boxster S last year from a reputable dealer locally. The salesperson told me the previous owner replaced the clutch, but didn't do the ims because it had already been done. I thought the explanation was strange, wanted to get clarification from the PO but never ended up connecting with him.
I just took the car out of storage and checked the engine serial number. Ends up I have M96/26AT62665168. From what I have read the "AT" means a new engine was swapped in. The 626 after the AT means a 3.2L built in 2006. If it was the original engine it would have been 625, and no AT in the serial number.
By the research I have done, it looks like my engine is a late sequence build in 2006. Would it be safe to assume it has the larger non serviceable IMS? This would coincide with why the previous owner didn't, or should I say couldn't replace it.
Cheers
