987.2 Spyder bumper 'horn' delete
Having enjoyed life in the Atlanta, GA area, time came to move on and I have now relocated to Europe. I just could not part ways with my Spyder and it came along for the ride - container shipping saving the day!
License plates in Europe have a different rectangular shape and it gave me a reason to change the rear bumper to a Euro spec version which eliminates the US regulation dictated 'horns' on either side of the tag. To my eye they have always obstructed the clean flow of the car's lines.
Replacing the bumper was straight forward:
- Remove old bumper which also took off horn section
- It exposed two aluminum braces which were riveted to the main bumper reinforcement section due to US requirements
- Drill out the 4 rivets and remove barces
- Install new EURO spec bumper part number 98750541124
Please see enclosed pictures for further details - pretty straight forward. Now you know what it takes to delete the eye insults added to the car to please uncle Sam. So, if you feel rebellious... (-;

I used Geodis Wilson to ship my cars - they know the tricks of the trade to avoid beating up my sweethearts.. Key is proper bracing of wheels and tie down...in a way that doesn’t leave marks on the rims. Truck the container to port instead of rail since handling on the latter is much rougher. GL.

It is legal but I admit it would be a pain. Luckily I relo’ed to Denmark where right handed drive has been mandated since 1685 - so issue solved

I actually prefer the look of the original Murrican hornettes, at least on a white Spyder. With them gone, the rear bumper looks like a big, featureless white blob (Honey, does this dress make my butt look big?). The hornettes add more 3D'ness to the rear bumper, and even provide a lower stylistic "echo" to the twin humps on the trunk lid above. Ain't messin' with mine, but that's just MHO.

And, what was the cost?
Thinking if I could ship my Spyder to EU and drive for a month and ship back? Is that possible and cost effective (and safe?) Thanks for your input, Bert

GT4 fits
The GT4 front bumper fits and they sell a vent like the GT$ but you have to cut a hole.
