Default Black "shavings" in oil filter

Hi All,

Long time viewer, first post.
After a year and half of research finally bite the bullet and got my self a 2006 Boxster S.
The car has a few maintenance items need addressing so I wanted to do that before spring comes and start really driving the car.

Well, changed the oil yesterday and cut open the oil filter, this is what i have found:

These black pieces appears to be thin plastic bits and shavings, they are very hard. The big pieces are 2-3mm across and I guesstimate there are about 20-30 of those in the filter.
Other metal shavings seems to be minimal. As I just bought the car, I don't know when was the last time the oil and filter is changed however the oil came out was dark indicating it has been at least a few thousand miles.
From what I understand the MY2006 should have the larger, single row IMS that is submerged in oil so there wouldn't be an IMS seal.
I searched the forum and the only ones I have seen close to this suggest chain guide, but they have blackish brown bits, mine are solid black except a few.
Any ideas what these bits are? Is this something I should be concerned about?

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

You should consider sending an oil sample off to Blackstone at your next oil change. It might give you some insight into the condition of your engine.

I agree, should have done it this time but I thought since I don’t know the mileage the result won’t mean a lot.

retrospectively, would have done the other way.

The common consensus is 5000mile for oil change right?
