Default 2006 Cayman M96 or M97 engine

I was doing a little research. It appeared that 2006 Caymans could have either the M96 or the M97 engine. I would suppose the earlier construction dates would have the M96 and a mid year change was implemented. Can anyone confirm?

There was a pretty early build 2006 Cayman on Bring-a-Trailer recently and it was confirmed an M97 by the engine number. I believe all Caymans got the M97.

I heard only the early build 2005 Boxsters and 997's got the M96. By the time the Cayman came out in 2006 the were only installing M97's .

The Cayman got an M97 at launch, but the '06 Boxster got the M96. I think this may be true for '06 911s too.
