2011 Boxter Spyder Cooling Fan Issue
I have owned the subject model since new and have ~155K miles on it. Daily driver. In the last two months the cooling fan on the pass. side of car (oil cooler??) runs on start up after having been driven normally. Temps here have been in the 30-40F range. Fan is at high speed. It will shut off after a couple minutes of driving. Water temp has not budged from new. No oil temp or oil pressure gauge on this model from factory. Now that temp is warming (50-60's F) fan will activate at times during steady driving. Feel like I'm driving a vacuum cleaner! Maybe I can tell folks I'm driving a ground effects vehicle.... Anyway, I would like to know: (1) Is this the oil cooler fan? (2) How can I trouble shoot to determine if this is a faulty temp switch, relay, or??? Thanks in advance for thoughts shared! Terry

Do you have access to a Durametric that might display any fan related error codes? The oil cooler is actually a water to oil heat exchanger mounted on the top of the engine on the driver's side rear. My guess would be a temperature sensor or the fan controller. Check out Pelican Parts for location of the sensor.
Good luck

Dear r553,
Thank you for your response! Unfortunately I just saw it today (never received notification...). This was the first time I ever posted and am new to Rennlist game.
I finally took the car to the dealer (ugh) not long after my initial post, and told them I thought it must be a temp sensor of some kind. They had it a few weeks, and when I got it back, the same issue returned before I got home with the car. Took it back and they had it several more weeks before finally finding the right sensor. Very dissatisfied with the whole saga. I think their shop was overrun with work (due to ownership change, and mass exodus of trained mechanics).
Anyway.......thank you for your response. I really appreciated it.
Best regards,
Terry
