Default Los Angeles or Orange County scenic drives...

Looking for some suggestions for a Saturday drive in the new Spyder in LA or OC that will knock the wife and my socks off. We've already done the Santa Monica to Malibu and Palos Verdes rim run many times so we need something new. Is the Mulholland Drive to San Vincente Mountain Park something to consider? Where else? Maybe northern San Diego county?

Have you thought about PCH, HWY 1 from Malibu to Santa Barbara?

Yeah, but we've done that many times already. I'm thinking something more through the hills, winding roads, grand views from above, etc. I thought I'd get a bunch of suggestions from this crowd.

You'll probably get more bites in the US-Western subforum than here. I don't know if you saw my off-roading thread from 2 months ago but I explored northern SD county and had a blast, though apparently I missed some of the best parts according to user @Marine Blue. He's in Temecula and more familiar with that area.

Apparently the roads through Mesa Grande are the one to take. Can't see them in the photo but if you zoom in on Google maps, it'll become obvious. If you've already done Malibu a bunch (as have I) and Palos Verdes (which is actually too crowded to have fun), then there's always Angeles Crest. Not sure where you're at but it can be somewhat of a hike getting there with traffic, but always incredibly rewarding. This time of year there's probably going to be some snow so you'll be limited, but shouldn't be an issue if you venture south towards Temecula & Palomar.

Whatever you do, do NOT take Nate Harrison Rd. Just don't.

I don't have too much experience with it yet, but this has been pretty effective at finding me some enjoyable driving roads here in the midatlantic, which can't be anywhere near as good for driving roads than southern cal.

There's also a very convenient app (for iPhone at least).

I would definitely recommend Julian and the roads in and around the area however I know they are predicting heavy snowfall for this evening and again on Saturday. Since the roads in and around Palomar have a decent amount of traffic I wouldn’t be surprised if they put sand down on the roads. Rock slides are also frequent when they get any precipitation so again, not worth the risk. I would wait a few weeks before venturing up there again.

Once the weather does start warming up we’ll likely get another Spyder drive planned, I’ll make sure to post here.

The problem is there are too many.

Use this as a reference.

One of our favorites is from Orange County over Ortega to Hemet and then 74 into Palm Springs. 243 over Idlywild and down into Banning is also good. We don't really run GMR this time of year because of snow and rain run off the rocks may surprise you but we do GMR over to Baldy for lunch. Run up to Lake Arrowhead is fun then come out the back side by the 15. We do Ortega to Pechanga to Pala to Palomar Mountain or Julian a bunch of times.

Mulholland highway is definitely one you must do. From malibu to the other end.

Angeles Crest Highway, another must do. Lots of options there.

Encinal canyon road all the way through to Mulholland is a good one.

Find time to stop and eat breakfast at Old Place. https://www.oldplacecornell.com/

I enjoy a round trip ride from Lake Elsinore (fresh water) to Capistrano Beach (salt water) on the 74. Getting Pie in Julian is also a great morning drive.

33 North out of Ojai. To 58 west out of McKittrick to Santa Margarita. You're welcome.

A good source of road info is Pashnit motorcycle tours website.

Speaking of IE, try going out I-10 to Beaumont - Hemet - Idyllwild - Palm Desert. One of the magazines (Motor Trend?) does a fair amount of testing out there. Or (a variation on another suggestion) I-15 to SR138 to Crestline to SR18 and back to San Bernardino. After that, freeway boredom back to home.

Thanks again, guys and gals. Looks like I'm getting rained out this weekend. WTF. This IS so Cal, right? Oh well. Guess I'll take the daily driver up to LA to see the Classic Car Show and the man, Dave Kindig. lol
