2013 Boxster S 6MT: what is it worth?

I need some advice.

A local guy is selling a Boxster S: he hasn't listed it for sale and is an older PCA guy. The car is clean, but has a few light scratches (looks like perhaps a shopping cart grazed the rear quarter panel, and he definitely pulled in over a parking lot curb at some point). I like the car though: 27,000 miles (give or take), sport exhaust, manual, sport chrono, PASM suspension (10mm lower), GT Silver, 2-way sport+ seats. It is a pretty basic build otherwise; no Bose, no nav, 19" wheels.

What should I offer him? I want it to be reasonable for both parties. I tried to see what they sell for here, but there are very few comparable cars; most are PDK and have not sold.

It also has a CPO. Tires are OK, not great.

I saw Boxsters with more expensive builds in the low 40's last fall from dealers. Most didn't have the "driver" options this one has, however. I haven't tried the PASM, but I hear it is pretty responsive compared to stock non-PASM, although not quite as good as X73. PASM always seemed fine when I would borrow my buddies' 997 however.

You can also add DSC controllers to PASM, which is not possible with analog suspensions. Not really necessary though unless the car will be tracked at a serious level. Pricing for an S should be low to mid $40k in a private sale. CPO is a big plus and worth a couple $k.

I’ll listen in on the discussion...

Can't really offer much that KBB can't do better, but I would strongly suggest that you get a PPI, with an overrun report, before you make any offers. Also go on cars.com or autotrader to get some pricing ranges, then take 10% off that to account for the bid ask spread.

How much is left on the CPO? A fair value for a full 2 year CPO is around $3K, IMO, so you can adjust the added value of the CPO by how much is left.

Setting that aside, I think low to mid $40K's sounds about right for a private sale, and probably toward the lower end of that scale.

The CPO has another year or so.

Thanks for the help. I did look at cars.com but there are simply very few Boxster S available that are equipped this way.

On the Porsche CPO locator, nothing comes up that is similarly equipped, but a ballpark guess puts this at around $48-50k at a Porsche dealer. If that is the case, $43,000 seems about right, as this is not a run of the mill PDK build.

I will get a PPI done on this!

No way should the price of that car start with a 4. None. Mid $30s at the very best.

I’d like to know where you can find these 981 boxster S — with manual, pasm, and cpo no less — in the low-mid thirties.

Two months ago Carmax offered me $40K for my 981BS. If I sold it to them I'm sure they would list it for at least $45K. Any 981BS that listed for $35K would arouse my suspicion, and cause me to have a comprehensive PPI and thorough review of the car's maintenance history. I'd also rent a paint meter and check the paint out very thoroughly.

Agreed. I bought a 2013 Boxster S last month, and that definitely wasn’t what I saw in the market.

The car he described is five years old, low option, has 27k miles and has some potential issues. No way is it worth $40k+.

FYI, this is a $76k build, so not high option, but SC/PASM/PSE adds quite a bit to the bottom line.

It looks clean however. Just a few light scratches. It has been washed and waxed religiously; the paint is in great shape aside from that and rock chips.

If you find something cheaper, LMK. A guy on 6SO had a BASE Boxster 2013, with 50k miles, super stripper 6MT build, and he had it up for $32,800. It sold in 2 days last week.

The dealer asks for cars like this on AT are high $30's to $44k. Knock 10% off dealer ask prices to start, particularly since you're buying from a private party and also because you'll be at least the third owner of the car. Maybe high $30s if you loooove the car AND everything checks out on the PPI.

Where are you looking?

Are we talking about the same car here? This is a 981 Boxster S, manual. Not a 987. Cheapest I see is $39,475 with 50,000 miles. Most are mid 40's, anything that is a similar build and mileage that is.

I spoke with the seller, he said the local dealer offered to buy it for $37,500 outright. They are a high-margin Porsche dealer. I asked them for a bid on my 997, they offered me $8k less than I sold it Private party for.

KG - you and I messaged before. You know I have an essentially new 2016 Boxster S with 680 miles on the clock. It might be available if anyone is interested or would like details. PM me.
