Default Amp location - 981

Hi, We have a 2014 Cayman. I've done some searching on this and there seems to be some confusion between the BASE audio system (2×25w, 4 speakers - 1 in both doors, 1 tweeter per side above the vents) and the Sound Package Plus (which appears to be the 'base' offering for some DIFFERENT models - not REGULAR Cayman). The packages ABOVE the BASE (SPP, BOSE, Burmeister) all seem to have an amp below the passenger seat. I checked - I have NOTHING there. My question is, does the BASE audio (described above) have an amp outside the CDR3.1 low res headunit? If so, where? ANY help is appreciated, thank you!! -Dom

I thought this would be a slam dunk, more of a mystery than I thought?

I have a 2015 Cayman base with the CDR31 base audio but with the SiriusXM receiver. Just checked, no amp under the passenger seat -- One data point for you.

I snagged that .png image from another website somewhere, can't remember where, was a couple years ago about the same subject of stereo systems in 981 cars. Maybe check with a local dealer and see if they will provide a copy of the document to you? I think the intent of the whole document is to train dealership personnel and technicians about the new features that cars have when a new generation comes out.

Thank you both for the responses. Okie981, this confirms what I suspected in the paragraph that mentions an "internal amp" for the base audio. On a side note, in the document that you referenced, is there detail on the PSE for the 981 (I have found the equivalent for 991, see included image, but have been unable to find something that describes it this well for 981)? Thanks again! -Dom

All I have is that screen shot image of that page as I posted it. Sorry. You could search the internet or maybe see if you local dealer will share a copy of the document with you?

I have the Base CDR31 radio/cd player in my 2014 981S. It had the amp under the passenger seat. I just removed both the radio and the amp (they are for sale), since the car is being totally converted for track use only.
FWIW.

Were you able to stream Bluetooth audio (not just phone) through your system? What is the part # of the headunit?

Interesting, thanks for the response. Maybe yet another difference between the "S" version & Base? I definitely do NOT have an amp there. If you piece out the system let me know how much you sell the amp for.
