987.1S to C63: good move?
Hi guys,
I have owned a 2005 987 Boxster S for the past eight years, and after having had its fuel pump replaced, I am contemplating a change.
If I do not have to go through the hassle of replacing ims - or find out that it cannot be replaced because it is an 05 - I would not hesitate to keep the car.
Has anybody ever had experiences with owning AMG cars?
I test drove a 2012 c63 amg with performance pack and found the power and noise to be very addictive.

Such different cars that drive so differently and have different strengths and weaknesses. I just went through a similar situation after selling my 981 about a year ago (had our first child) and picked up a B8.5 S4 for practilicality reasons. The S4 when tuned is a torque monster perhaps similar to the stock C63. It is also a big luxurious 4,000 lb sedan. And while it is surprisingly agile a for what it is, especially with its torque vectoring rear sports diff, there are no getting around the laws of physics. It just can’t turn into a corner and dance like the Porsche can. I honestly thought I wouldn’t be back into a P car for a long time but ust picked up a 987.2 last week. Long story short, even with the all conquering power of the AMG, I fear you will quickly yearn for the agility and nimbleness of the Porsche. The tech, power, practicality, and luxury are all amazing in the S4 but, for me, I also needed the light weight sports car feeling. And now for basically the same price as my newer 981 I have an S4 and 987 and am happier than a pig in ****.

We have a 2009 c63 within the family with over 70k with no issues so far. We have primarily owned amgs and always had a great experience.
so in my opinion, it’s not a bad choice if your considering that route. Both have very different characteristics as some will say.
The amg is just a power house. Tail loves to slide out on corners and doesn’t hug as nice as Porsche, but it does feel very nimble and light.

I owned a c63 AMG 2010 , and currently drive a 2016 E 63 S AMG , also owned a GLA45 AMG
I never owned a 987, but had couple of 981
completely different cars : C 63 2012 is a muscle car. Good engine power and noise , good brakes, average steering , below average transmission
the newer AMGs have improved the weak points mainly steering/handling as well as transmission , but you have to go to 2016 which will be more expensive
the 2012 c63 will be a fun car but not a Porsche
in that group I'LL suggest trying an e90 M3. For that generation, the M3 was a better car than C63 overall. Test drive one with competition package . Also with M3 , you have choice of dct and MT . Having said that , I'll suggest dct as MT in M3 is notchy , and with lack of low end torque will be somewhat annoying for regular driving .
Suffice to say , I owned the M3 so I am speaking from experience .The V8 in the e90 M3 has a very unique soothing sound
good luck

To me, the debate between the Boxsters and the C-class AMG's is whether you want a true sports car or a car with sport capability. I don't modify my cars so there was never any thought of making the C63 into something it wasn't already. In the end, this Spyder checks way more boxes for me and what I wanted from a spare car. No comparison. But that raw N/A horsepower of the AMG's is tempting. I loved my time in them. Variety is the spice of life. Try one for a while. If you hate it, dump it.
Although not my car, this is the setup I had.

Maybe have a look at an Alpina B3 or B5.... better adapted for everyday use than a BMW M. Powerfull! And a lot af fun to drive.
since i have my 2001 E46 B3 3.3 i notice i drive my 987 spyder less then before (with an 2001 E46 330i as daily). Alpinas are very enjoyable!
don’t know for sure if they sell them in the US though
