Default 981/GT4 G81 aftermarket transmission gears

My GT4 is mostly used as a daily driver and therefore, for me, is too highly geared. Therefore I am thinking of re-gearing the transmission using gear sets manufactured by Guards Tranmissions or Holinger. Alternatively I could fit a lower final drive - but then it would be sensible to also fit a stronger 3rd gear from GT or H due to the standard 3rd gear synchro ring weakness.

So is there anyone out there with a 981 variant who has the experience of aftermarket gears and who can offer an opinion regarding the noticeable noise difference I would experience between OE and aftermarket gears, OR even mixing the two if I just install the solitary 3rd gear lower final drive option - remember, this is for highway use?

how about going down to 19" wheels but keeping the same profile tyre so you end up with smaller gearing.

Definitely not an option as the GT4 is already low to clear UK speed humps. It has to be an aftermarket gear set, final drive change + reinforced 3rd gear, or if both are too noisy - then move on to the next car!
