Default 718 Pdk slifts slower than 911

So went to test drive a 718 Boxster and Boxster S, noticed that both had a lag on up shifting compared to my 911(991.2).

Is is this Normal? Neither car had Sports Chrono, both were in sport mode. If used the paddles if seems rpms went up 2-300 before the actual gear change. The upshiifts in my 911 are instantaneous, it’s PDK with SC. Was the same on 2 new cars?

Wow, nobody? Looking to pick up a 718 Boxster for my wife, did not like the PDK response time, can’t believe this n be different from the 911?

Was the car fully up to temp? The PDK can be sluggish when cold, like most clutch-based transmissions.

My thoughts exactly...

I've never driven a 911 "in anger" but the PDK in my 718B shifts so fast that I can't feel a lag at all (and I've tried) and I can't duplicate the rpm rise. The published shift time is 200 milli-seconds, is that really to slow?

Yes, both cars had oil temp of 180+ before I took them over 3k rpm, not sure what was going on but was not the same as my 911 AT ALL. Very strange, will have to try again, if no joy, it’s an M4 for the wife.

Are you comparing it with your sport plus on? Because sport plus shifts a lot faster than non sport plus. Also is this the only factor swaying you away from pursching this car over a m4? What about the rest of the car?

did not try sport+, but I only run sport on my 991.2 and there is no lag at all, the up shift is instantaneous, was more just wondering why there was a lag. We are still comparing the two cars, which I have told her they apples to oranges. She loves the torque and acceleration of the M4 comp pkg, and space, but the crispness of steering goes to the boxster. First World problems right, lol.

My 718 Boxster S shifts instantaneously. No ambiguity about it, there's no perceptible delay. Like pulling the trigger of a gun.

I have Sport Chrono, but this is true in both Sport and Sport+ modes.

Having a 991 I'll give you the benefit of experience but it sounds like you're shifting up while decelerating or otherwise maintaining a constant or slightly lowering speed. Fast(est) shifts are under load (while accelerating). If you're decelerating even ever so slightly it's possible the car will load the gearbox to upshift which is why you could get the blip. It is programmed to anticipate your subsequent actions but you can fool it by doing the opposite such as shifting up while decelerating. That's my only possible explanation. Otherwise it should shift quite fast under normal load.

I was going to say the same thing. When I got my 911 I bitched and moaned about the PDK. Shifts sluggish, shifts way too early, doesn’t drop as many gears as I think it should in light traffic, etc. So I drove it for a few months in Sport with PSE off. That was a little too aggressive in daily driving. Then I would leave it in normal mode with auto start/stop disabled and PSE on and shift manually. Next I decided it would be more efficient to set Individual to auto start/stop off and PSE on. That was instead of pressing two buttons I’d just click the **** one click counterclockwise. One morning I was feeling lazy and did not set it to manual shift. EUREKA! At some point the car learned how I shifted and would now mimic it. Now I’m absolutely bonkers for the PDK. It’s amazing. Of course I still have my manual 981 Boxster GTS for when I want to row my own gears.

I just took delivery of a 2020 Macan S for my wife. The PDK in it was also miserable sluggish. I had to drive it in Sport+ just to equal my 911 in normal mode. Her Macan has about 2,000 miles on it now. I don’t drive it much but I did drive it home from dinner the other night and in normal mode it shifted just fine.
