Blu, great looking color. Huge congrats!

I'm always curious to know if there is an interesting backstory behind the selection of a PTS color and/or why the color was selected. If you were the original owner that spec'd the color, or if you happen to know from the original owner what his motivation was, I'd just be curious about the selection of Slate Grey.

Thanks and continued enjoyment of that beauty!

By the way, I'm in NorCal not Socal. Questions?

Ah, I was wondering about the blue tint, thought it was my screen. Love slate grey, gorgeous in person. Have any other pics you care to share?

Thank you guys for the complements on the color. Greatly appreciated, particularly since the decision process was a great cause of concern for a long time.

SJ, I think your curiosity about backstories on various owner's selection of their PTS color will be rewarded in most cases if the truth be known. In the case of my Spyder, there's quite an extensive backstory which I will greatly simplify by saying that my mandatory starting point was yellow PCCB brakes and satin black wheels because they simply looked the best mounted atop yellow calipers. So then it became a process of elimination to find a PTS color that was light enough to offset the black wheels. I already had a PTS blue 964 so I didn't want another blue Porsche even though it's a favorite color. A close acquaintance of mine, an employee with Porsche AG's Tourist Delivery Program, had great familiarity with Porsche Stuttgart's "wall of color" and suggested slate grey while I was there visiting the color wall. When I returned to the US I chose to honor his suggestion. I then came to learn that Porsche's PTS program offered two slate greys; the darker traditional 615 "Steve McQueen" slate grey and the newer lighter Y97 slate grey. I chose the lighter of the two greys because to my eye it offered the greatest contrast with the black wheels. I've since seen a PTS GT4 with black wheels in the darker 615 slate grey and in my opinion the lighter Y97 slate grey looks better overall. So that's the story in a nutshell, so to speak.

^^^^^ Thanks for taking the time to share your thought process! Love stories like these. Very interesting. I was not aware that there are two Slate Greys. As I suspected, considerable thought and effort went into the color decision and those efforts paid off handsomely!

I hope some day to stand before the Wall of Color. There are so few paint samples at dealers and even at the PEC in Los Angeles the samples on hand are not what I would call extensive. I briefly considered PTS on my Spyder, but had issues getting an appointment with Mathew Henry who at the time was a PCNA Personal Design Specialist for Exclusive, which back then had a West Coast location on Rodeo in Beverly Hills. Because there were certain PTS colors I wanted to see in person before pulling the trigger, and because I couldn't do so, I deferred. I learned my lesson: When it comes to PTS you have to know what you want right now so when the window is there you can pounce. There's no time for indecision.

Thanks Donavan. Looks like he has come out!

Beautiful Spyder! I too did not know there were two Slate Grey's. Before you mentioned it, I did see the current 615 color code Slate Grey GT4 that is currently up for sale and noticed it looked darker than yours. I took the liberty of posting two shots of each cars at similar angles to show others that may be interested the difference.

Pics attached to show both Slate Grey's and their differences.

By the way, one of the ironies of my Y97 slate grey PTS order was that I had never seen a Porsche in the metal in this color before. And two years later after taking delivery of my Spyder, that is still the case! (And I typically attend enough events that I see hundreds of Porsches every year.)

That is gorgeous. I've seen slate and I've seen 615 in the flesh, but never Y97. Looks gorgeous.

Stunning cars and color. Grey can be sooo many different colors and shades depending on angle and light.

My wife wanted a few walls painted grey recently and we thought it would be an easy job. Well, it was, the first time. Not so much the second, third and fourth, trying to find a shade that didn't turn purple at certain times of the day.

That last Cayman pic is absolutely sinister.

Yep, she's a bit dirty at the moment. Sorry about that. Been spending more time driving her than cleaning her, which ain't bad, believe me.

I bought #15 in your list (Mexico Blue) new; that picture was taken by me when I took delivery.

Still own the car, and it's most definitely not for sale, even though I get frequent offers to buy it. I'd sell all of my other cars before I would sell that car. I love looking at it and love driving it. I have absolutely zero regrets on the color choice as well; it still floors me every time I see it.

My Mexico blau is #5 on the list- the picture looks like it was taken at the dealership before I took delivery (Porsche of Omaha) but I don't rmember taking it. Not sure where it came from- nice to see the TX car is still with the original owner. I believe the only other mexico blue car in NY did sell recently. I don't know where it ended up.

Mine is NOT for sale though I also could have sold it many times over. Still get tons of comments on the colour especially when it is parked next to or near a Miami blue 911, etc. Off now to take it for a ride...
