Yeah, quite possible to misinterpret Whoopsy's post as it was meant to be as cryptic as possible! Here is his actual quote:
"....The other half of the twin will the same but the the cloth top like old ones..."
The reference 'old ones' could very well be 981 as opposed to 987. And, agree that they are unlikely to fall back to 987-like top. 981's top works extremely well. At least one useful change could be making the rear trunk operable with the top up.

Clueless is right.

"We are keeping our fingers crossed on that version, but it will likely pack a 3.8-liter flat six with 375 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque from the last Boxster Spyder. We should know more soon as the drop-top is expected to make its debut this summer."

What wheels are those in the spy shots? I can’t find them on the Suncoast catalog site.

Any idea whether these things would fit on a Spyder without any modification or fitment issues? I like ‘em.

They will fit just fine. Both my new wheels and tires are GT4 spec in tire size and wheel offsets.

In don't care what anyone tells me: ZERO chance it has the 987 top. The world continues to more towards convenience and function and that isn't going to change with that 982/718 spyder. The tent top concept ship has sailed; elegant or not.

I agree... although I wish the 981/982 roof had the ability to run the sun shade only like the 987.2. Nothing like have the full breeze, yet have sun protection at the same time.
Heck, I would do full automation to get that feature back. 👍🏼

I don't know why they can't keep the current 981 top and just add the zip out back panel. Seems like it would be easy to do.

When I look at the 981 Spyder top I see what appears to be a long strip of the female side of velcro that I can't figure out the function of. It looks like the top should be able to go Bimini style like the 987 but it doesn't.

Maybe its to reduce wear? When I had a S2000, ppl placed felt in certain areas to help reduce the bars rubbing the vinyl top during the folding process.
