Maybe I’m partial (but even when I was doing my search for various 911’s and Cayman’s/Boxster’s I felt this) but I maaybe like the 3.4 sound even more than the 3.8. Maybe. At least at certain RPM ranges (the 3.4 really screams with a raspier and higher pitch). Both sound amazing though.

absolutely nothing new in this article... same car, same day, same video. Motor1 is a little late to the party.

I don't find that surprising. Heck I find the 458 Speciale sounds grating on the ears rather than pleasant. Same way with the GT3 motor especially at the very high rpms. And that motor being in a cabin that probably acts as a resonance chamber etc not pleasant at all!

Hmm, u dislike exactly what I do like about an exhaust note. The scream of a gt3; only thing better is the scream of a cgt or 360cs. I can do w/out some of the pops and crackles of the 981 spyder. Sometimes it's fun but it tends to get old by the end of a drive. But screams; I can't get enough.

I think I'm the only guy that loves the pops and crackles. My old Vette used to do it as well if you pulled the fuse on the sport exhaust.

I could go either way on the pops and crackles, but the 981 spyder with even an exhaust mod being wrung out to redline is a thing of beauty.

That makes three of us. I think the blip on downshift is a bit silly but the rest of it works for me.

Make that five. But I do my own blipping on downshifts.

I really like it that we have the choice to change all these things.
If I’m able to drive over 4/5 rpm then the car sounds epic without the exhaust on.
But if like most of the time I’m in traffic doing 30/40 mph, then the crackles and pops keep me amused.
I also enjoy the auto blips, just because they are so well done. But again can turn off SP and play in manual mode.
I just find as a package it’s epic !!

I also have a BS 987.2 with a PSE, but in comparison it just seems a bit lame, I have to keep checking the exhaust is actually turned on.

From the sounds of the new test mules, I’m not sure we will ever get a factory Sports Exhaust from Porsche that’s quite this crazy again.

So I will continue to smile every time I drive it :-)

my 986 and my 997 are both much easier to rev match and heel toe than the Spyder. I keep the Spyder in sport plus and let the computer do it for me as a result. One time, on the warm up lap at the track, being so used to the Spyder doing it for me,I forgot to heel to and dumped the clutch in my 986, creating a bit of drama. :-)

I like the scream of the 360CS and the Carrera GT and the Lexus LFA. I like raw V10 in the R8/Hurracan and of course the V12 of the Lambo and the Ferraris. In the Ferraris I like the 'bark' better than the scream. The Porsche GT3 at the last few hundred rpms sounds grating on my ears. Harsh. Not pleasant. The Spyder/GT4 sounds awesome all throughout the rev range. The pops are a bit too much but I can live with them. I do love the blips on downshift.

Damn all this is making me miss my Spyder. I don't think I will get an opportunity to drive it this weekend. Ah well at least I got a track day coming up next weekend! Will make up for it. BTW one of the Porsche dealerships local to me said $1k deposit to get on line for the Spyder/GT4. Other one said don't need any deposit just get priority as am a current owner. Are these normal operating patterns for dealerships?
