You guys aren't making this easy. There's a part of me that loves my Cayman and how practical it is (and not worrying about a "too special" car). There's another part of me that has always loved the way the Spyder looks. Maybe I can convince the wife that a European delivery trip might be worth it.

The car does sit very low, though, so if tall speed bumps or those raised, spiked access barriers are on your daily route you might want to know what you're getting into. I left a parking lot the other day and did some minor scraping for a couple of feet when driving over those spiked doohickies. Ouch.

Honestly, that car looks very different than the 981 from every angle. Looks like an entirely different car to me. The more I look at those pics, the more I think it’s going to have GT DNA in it. Not a fan of the styling though, particularly the front.

Don't these rear ends look pretty much the same? And I think we know pretty sure that the GT4 is a 4.0, correct? Bodes well for the Spyder...

Honestly, I never really cared for the 981 Spyder that much but that looks spectacular to me.

The new cars look very Japanese to me. I wonder if it’s by design for Asian markets.

The 981 is the more beautiful version of this car if this is close to the final product. Less is more.

The 718 does seem to be selling well in China......

On the contrary I prefer the new one. Something to do with the more rounded headlights looking cleaner. Also I swear the rear wheels are more dished. Much prefer the 981 rear though. Twin central exhausts is the right design. Harks back to the original speedsters.

WHAT? Nobody is biting on my post reference to the Spyder with a 4.0? Have we all seriously gone to sleep on this?

I don't think anyone felt that there would be different engines in the cars, so everyone has assumed a 4.0 meant a 4.0 for both. The issue isn't 3.8 vs. 4.0, it's whether the 4.0 is the GT3 motor or just a punch out of the old 3.8. Most seem to think the latter based on guarded commons from those who have seen the new car.

Rounded headlights? The headlights have been flattened and triangulated relative to the prior headlights, which were gently curved and elongated along the top line of the fender. The front of the new car looks like a Japanese anime wasp to me. The bumper is an improvement over the regular 718 though, the latter of which is just awful.

lots of tape and padding on that diffuser. actually sticks out way past the bumper.

you can see the edges of the real diffuser.

I'm betting, going to be a lot more aggressive once the padding and tape is removed.
