982 GT4 Spyder?
#631
Who knows what options the 982 Spyder may offer but since mine will be a street only car I've been looking at the GTS configuator to start the wish list. And for the first time think I've got a color picked out. Just hope they offer the spyder with an all leather black/carmine red interior.... Exterior in Chalk with Chalk painted wheels looks good to me now but you know how many times options can change in 6 months.
Ilm certain that I'm not in the vocal majority here, but have not decided about manual vs PDK. Especially if I keep both cars. Hard to get over how much faster the PDK is and I've wanted one since I first drove a then new 997 Turbo S. Also against the grain is that it will have 18 way seats for the long drives it will make. I have them in the 981 and they are very comfortable while holding me in place.
Thanks for allowing my misc. ramblings...

This would be awesome if it were true, but it makes no sense. Inflation alone would drive a bigger price increase, likely double that 3%, and the incremental cost of the 4l would be a lot more than a few k.

Sorry... This is wishful thinking. A pre-order is basically a deposit and info from a dealer is just that... not a reliable source. Ive heard from multiple sources above dealer network that it’s not happening this year. Paris will be dedicated to the 992 for the 70th anniversary.

The engine alone makes 3% a long shot that would be a negative return based on the GT3 engine cost ........... If this thing has a GT3 motor 918 owners will gobble them up.

Yeah, well-informed and connected forum members suggest that it may not happen this year. And, just 3% increase over 981 is not gonna happen, regardless of what engine. Likely about 10% or so. Speaking of engine, I am sticking with my forecast of NA. Same informed members all insist it is NA, not withstanding how terrible it sounds. Damn, those regs have put a serious # on one of the things we care the most about. My wishful thinking is that in the US, we may get unrestricted soundtrack since Euro regs don't apply to us. But, if the sound changes are done at the fundamental levels (ECU, emission, etc.), then they may not want to do and maintain multiple versions. If the sound is impacted superficially at intake and exhaust levels, enterprising tuners will step in and rectify the situation.

Hopefully some aftermarket parts will fix that - but it is a big part of the equation for me.

Mostly because 63A has been cheerleading for the Spyder to become a GT product and ‘how great it would be if that were to happen’. Now it’s the Spyder is so great, even, according to others, a better drivers car than the GT4, so maybe the formula shouldn’t change. With some rumors of actually separating the Spyder and GT4 (different engines), there seems to be a bit of reverse psychology going on.
FWIW, a pretty fantastic garage would be a GT3 and a Spyder. But if I could only have one play car, it’s the GT4 (plus a Ducati...).

We will see in a few months who is right...I only wanted to share some information.
The sound in that video is indeed a 4 cylinder, bit that is for an other project !
Pricing by Porsche is a lot more around marketing then about production cost.

How often are magazines like Car & Driver *completely* wrong?
Just wondering as I was reading through the latest issue last night. It's about 25 upcoming cars worth waiting for. Lots of good stuff. Of interest to us was the 718 Cayman GT4. With no ifs, ands, or buts, they declare it coming next year with the NA 4.0 flat six.

Hope you are right about that engine being for a different project. Are you referencing GT4CS on the track or the Spyder proto at the 'Ring? And, when people voice skepticism, such as about pricing, don't take it personally. Porsche's historical pricing trend doesn't support the # from your sources. Like you said, time will tell. And, please don't stop sharing what you hear or know. It's all part of the fun of speculating and arguing leading up to the real deal!
