982 GT4 Spyder?

If it came with the turbo 6 this car would be mega. Can you imagine flashing it to 550 whp and having the weight advantage of the spyder + open top? I think I could live without the N/A at that point.
But it will be a turbo 4 for just that reason. Only way to cap the potential of the thing. The 718S with a flash are insanely quick as is.

Now, a 3.o turbo with 6 MT, mechanical LSD and shorter gears could be an exciting car, but I don't know if that would make me want to trade. A NA 4.0 6MT with mechanical LSD and shorter gears makes me want to trade, and maybe give up GT3 allocation.

Not as fun?
Having recently driven a 991 Turbo s and found my Spyder more fun to drive, I agree. However much of what I like about the Spyder is the chassis and lightness and open air driving. A Spyder weighing hundreds of pounds less than the 991 you drove w 500 Horses and gobs of torque is more than appealing. Not that a turbo six cylinder Spyder is likely but the thought is intoxicating to me.

The more I listen to the video the more I think turbo 6.
It seems logical that the gt4 / spyder have the carrera engine. It would follow the same formula:
Carrera engine in mid engine chassis + some cosmetic changes = profit
Of course the GT4 being the track ready model so it gets some additional fun stuff.
If I rank probability I'd say this:
50% - 6 pot turbo
49% - 4 banger
1% - NA engine (gt3 etc etc)

I think the 3.0 turbo 6 sounds pretty lousy, but whatever the Spyder in that video has in it sounds even worse to me. Sounds closest to a turbo 4.
Either way, neither are close to worthy on an auditory level to reside in a Spyder or GT car, if you ask me.
Plus; a light, uniquely revvy/linear/razor throttle/on-cam/RPM + sound crescendo are what those cars are all about, are why they're so legendary, are why people will pay huge markups for them, and are why they don't depreciate. A turbo motor will take away all of those characteristics, rendering them yes powerful, but homogenized with the rest of the high-torque/pancake flat torque curves available in every other modern high performance car.

I'm really disappointed in the new sound, whatever engine is making it. One of the things I love about my Spyder vs my 991.2 Cab is the sound. Was hoping for even better sound in the next Spyder. Doesn't "sound" like I'll be trading my '16 for a new one.

It definitely doesn’t sound as good as the 981. I’m still going to withhold judgement on sound and engine until I hear it in person or get some better clips but I have to admit that doesn’t bode well.
I’ll add that when comparing it back to back with the 718 I am not hearing the same turbo whine and the pitch of this engine is a bit higher which still makes me think it’s a NA.

Now what?
So, I missed out on the 981 Spyder, and convinced myself that i'll wait for the next gen Spyder.
Already have a deposit down with my Porsche dealer for a build slot on this upcoming 718 Spyder. When the rumors first surficed 4.0 , I was just so freakin excited. Because the 718 Spyder test mule is looking really good in terms of design.
So, the stage was set, great design matched with a 4.0 manual, thats stuff of dreams really!!!!
However, now with this last video that was just released
Don't know what to think really. At first, I did not want to believe the noise I'm hearing...... but who are we kidding, its a 4 banger turbo ( STI noise )
So, NOW WHAT?????
If we want to be optimistic and hope its a 4.0 NA ( that Video keeps ringing in my ear ) and disappointment comes again.
And if I except that its a 4 banger turbo, I'm no longer sure I want one..........
Where to go from here...... I guess only time will tell.
