PS I do not like crow. And I doubt I'll eat one anytime soon re: this topic. Time will tell.

But if at the end I must, I will take mine with a Béchamel sauce & some petits pois, accompanied
by a fine Grand Cru wine from Alsace. Perhaps this one:

I’m don’t see anyone in this thread is calling themselves an “expert” on exhaust notes. It seems as though most of us, myself included hear a flat 4.

As far as eating crow, sure if that’s a NA 6 then I’ll take mine plucked, brined and smoked. I’ll follow it down with some Colorado water.

I don't think it's turbo either. During the very brief throttle input, the noise level sounds linear/progressive. The off-throttle overrun sounds somewhat similar to 981. Of course, we will need longer clip, which we will get, soon. I am still in the NA camp!

Funny that YouTube brings up a bunch of 718 sound videos after this one. Yep - they sound the same as this spyder.

On closer inspection, the rear bumper on this car is quite different from the previous spyshots. The depression where the license plate is held is much more narrower in width than the previous test mules. Not sure what's the reason for that.

Preuninger said that they are working on it and from the words he chose it's a pretty hard job so it will take a little while but they don't really doubt that they will manage to do it.

I guess you could also deduct from that that if they launch the 982 Spyder and GT4 in the near future it cannot have an NA engine because it's not ready for the new emission regs that come into force in the EU in September. This was speaking in the context of the 4.0 engine in the RS though.

That sounds frighteningly like a turbo flat 4 or maybe even but barely even a 3.0 turbo 6 :/ . Nothing like an N/A, and certainly not like a 4.0 GT N/A. What a tragedy if that's the case.

Maybe Porsche is trolling us by doing something to make it sound so horrible, maybe it's not a Spyder but a guy who modded his 718 GTS to have a Spyder cover, or maybe Porsche completely screwed up and put yet another small CI F/I engine in another sports car, this time the upcoming GT4 and Spyder's which have had people salivating over paying huge markups for a raw naturally aspirated example.

BTW, if it is F/I, congrats to you 981 owners! Values will go through the roof.

I am thinking Porsche planted this footage; an inside job! As the other driver was following in the adjacent lane, he/she could have had longer footage. Also, it cut off just before seeing the front-end. Of course, we don't know the traffic conditions; recorder's lane of traffic could have slowed further or stopped and the Spyder may have sped away. And, the car looks complete, front and back. So, I am thinking the launch is imminent.

When they launched the completely reworked 4.0, they would have considered Euro 6 compliance which was just over a year away. It would be a basic business error and complete lack of decision making skills if they didn't. I would make an assumption people at Porsche are capable of seeing what's ahead of them at least couple of years out. As for the sound, from the brief few seconds, it sounds angry; meaner than 981.

thats always the sense I get with all of AP’s comments, they’re in context of the GT3.

This could explain how all gt3 production is finished by dec 2018.. although I do wonder about the gt3rs.. is that also done??

Gt4 and spyder with 4-cyl turbo would be a massive massive let down. No interest at all, I'll find a used 981 spyder to pair with the gt3.. (shouldn't have sold it anyway).

Car looks good! That front gap is back yay! Like the front aggressive bumper as well. Looks great. Too bad for that motor though!
