It’s this picture of the Gentian Blue that caught my attention.

Journalist at press release said North America cars will not have the particulate filter. Wonder how that affects sound, and if one is allowed to euro delivery and drive a NA car that doesn't have the filter...

Steve are you considering getting back into the Spyder fold? Would be great to see you back here posting some of your creative upgrades to the interior.

NA cars will still have an inert filter to maintain the same back pressure as the GPF. It will still be muffled, maybe less so. Based on the architecture diagram, the O2 sensors are at the cat so it should be as easy as a slip on "axleback" to get rid of the GPF or the inert filter insert.

Afshin,
I originally exited because of some life events and while not yet fully resolved I am keeping an eye on what is going on with the new Spyder.

As shown in my screenshot from a YouTube video from The Wheel Network, it looks like the 718 Spyder front lip is indeed thinner than the GT4 in addition to protruding less. This is good news for street usability. I just hope it’ll also clear the speed bumps in my town without scraping the bottom, given that it’s 30mm lower than normal non-PASM Boxster ride height.

........... I was under the impression deliveries would not commence until spring 2020 and that the Spyder would thus be a MY2020. What makes you think the new Spyder will be delivered this year as a MY2019? Did I miss something?
........
........... So many things the 982 has going for it. Pity to scrap all that just because the ear candy is less than hoped. I say keep the faith and if the U.S. cars are found to be aurally wanting, resort to the aftermarket for exhaust options if you must, but don't throw in the towel on the car. I know many 981 owners (like me) thought they were buying the last NA car, but with the 982 that will likely be the case IMO with electric/hybrid on the horizon.

Thanks for being the voice of reason! You're correct that this gen has plenty going for it. It's an open-top GT, for a starter! That alone gets me excited! I'm plenty hopeful about US-spec. If the sound is as bad as it is for Euro-spec, we'll figure something out, at least post-warranty.

Nick, some members have mentioned that they've deliveries scheduled this fall. AP, in Catchpole's interview, suggested that allocations for this year may have been spoken for; but, for '20 and '21, plenty to come. I assumed this year's deliveries could be '19. With rumored 3-year run and AP's comments, I hypothesized the production run to be '19-'21. AP only mentioned about '20 and '21. So, the next gen platform could surface in '22.

- You’ve already got the stand-alone rev match deactivation button you prayed for. Couldn’t want for a better solution than that.
- You’ve got what appears to be minimal weight gain when you consider the added aero, power, brakes, rubber, et al.
- You’ve got a bonafide GT car (with all the cache that goes along with that), which is priced $150K+ lower than the next soft top GT offering.
- You’ve got the naked wheel we hoped would carry over from the 981 free of any buttons, *****, dials, or switches.
- You’ve got a car that will be free of any third gear issues that potentially impact 2016 build cars.
- On top of everything, it’s priced BELOW the GT4. Consider that a $3,000 gift from Porsche!
Even auto stop/start appears to have a work-around that will allow one to defeat it.
So if the sound turns out to be more whimper than roar (which I seriously doubt), don’t lose sight of all these other positive factors.

For North America the 718 Spyder/GT4 will hit showrooms week 7 of 2020. Making it a 2020 MY. North American Production starts the week of October 14th, 2019. So that means they will be doing a Port hold until Week 7 (Feb 2020).
