Default Are They Really That Reliable?

Hi, new to the forum. I've done some research both on here and elsewhere on the internet, and everyone says these are very reliable cars. I'm looking at purchasing a 2013 base Boxster (PDK) with 42,500 on it from a very reputable Lexus dealership. It's a one owner car. I'll be financing it and I really don't want to be hit with some huge surprise repair bill. I've had a 968 and a 944 Turbo - neither were impressive in the reliability department, but that was back in the late 90's and early 2000's, I know things have changed. I plan to get a PPI done on it, but I'm a little skittish to not have a warranty, which I know I can buy, but don't want to waste my money on something not needed. For the record, it will just be an enjoyable car, I work from home so just a drive to the gym and back every day, and go out to dinner on the weekends. I have fun driving briskly and will redline it quite a bit, but I take care of my cars, I don't abuse them. I don't plan on doing any track stuff. Just sold a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport (19,000 miles on it). I'm also considering a BMW Z4sdrive35i/is and a Jaguar F-Type - both of which I WILL NOT buy without a warranty. Please any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

They are supremely reliable - once again JD Power/Consumer Reports rated Porsche as the most reliable brand. A world of difference from the 90's. Even my 04 Cayenne S was reliable, both 987's I've had - certainly things can and do go wrong, but I would not let reliability hold you back. Jaguar on the other hand....

A warranty wouldn't be a bad idea. Look up headlight delamination and panel warping.

Other areas to look at with the higher mileage, water pump and air oil separator. Neither will break the bank but are considered wear items.

If the car has had regular maintenance (extremely important) then it will be very reliable as already noted. If you perform your own maintenance the overall ownership cost won’t be high, if you bring it to a dealer or porsche tech then expect to pay more than average.

Good luck

Very unlikely to find a warranty that would cover those "appearance" items.

I would look into a warranty.

Here's an example that might be helpful: https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...-contract.html NOTE: Not an endorsement, just an example.

I don't know much about 3rd party warranties, but Porsche CPO would definitely cover that (not the case here with a Lexus dealership).

What he said, and also beware of the notorious windshield seal deteriorating.
I purchased a '14 CPO Boxster S with 25K miles Dec 2019, and am close to putting my own 2k miles on the vehicle and LUV it! Never in life had thought I would be a convertible fan, but this is such a fun automobile!
Day after purchase I noticed a black "goopy" residue from a corner of the windshield. Took back to dealer and they said, "That's rather unsightly, and cannot represent the Porsche Brand." Today I picked her up after a completely new windshield installed free of charge! Of course the COVID-19 delayed the final repair, but I must say I LUV my dealership!
This may have also been a well known issue back then for which Porsche AG would replace free of charge anyway.

These cars are very reliable. I have an 09 base 6 mt that I have driven for 3.5 yrs and put approx 39 k miles as a daily driver. The only issue I have had has been with the OEM shifter cable. Had to replace two of these that snapped. Went with a numeric cable. Haven’t looked back.

Garage floor is finished in liquid granite epoxy ¼” grey flake. I would never own a garage without it!

Thanks for the positive comment.

Are you referring to it's Guards Red color, or that it is in the folded-up position?
The car has Guards Red accents and stripe.
