Is New 718 Spyder 4.0 gettable?
Sorry to bemoan the point, but the idea of a 718 4.0 Spyder calls to me like a siren so If Porsche does make such a car, then will it be accessible to those with means like the last two Spyders or will this car become unobtainable too?
Is there market momentum building behind the Boxster Spyder Iterations? I know Manual Transmission and Top narrow the market, and the ever growing prices will also be an obstacle, but will the car be there (available) for those who meet all the hurdles? |
My Sales GM said I have the second one coming to them. I would get your name on the list now if you haven’t done so already. I have a feeling most will be spoken for before order banks open up.

Dealers in my state do not honor lists whatsoever, so I won't even try.
I will just buy one second hand (ONLY if it has a 9k RPM 4.0), just like this one. If I knew a trust worthy dealer that would sell at MSRP and get me on a list in a good spot that was actually honored, I would call and put myself on that list. That said, there's almost 200 dealers in the US. Probably tough chance of getting one if you're further down the list than 1 or 2 when you subtract out the remaining 918 owners that will buy and flip. |
Assuming they make 850 new Spyders that means every dealer will get about 3 -4 allocations. Not all dealers will want the allocations so there’s a chance that some dealers will trade for it and have more than 4 allocations assuming they have a solid wait list. Get your deposit into a trustworthy dealer asap if y ou want one.

I put myself on the list the other day. The GM told me he has “a handful”of interested customers, so I’m not sure where that leaves me for now. I too am only interested if it has the de-tuned GT3 engine and, of course, a manual.
I’m no VIP so we’ll see where things end up. I passed on a 981 Spyder because of the top and still wish they added back the 22 pounds, but have convinced myself I can live with it this time around if I get an allocation. |
I must have missed the announcement - is it confirmed that the 718 Spyder will have the 4.0 motor??

From reading the posts, the new Spyder will be on fire, but that would contradict the last time around when there were even small discounts (5%) on a few Spyders sitting (briefly) on lots. People were able to buy Multiples of the last Spyder because it was a "sleeper" (and the MTrans MTop) and because it was in the shadow of the GT3, GT4 and the Previous 987 Spyder which received a lot of press. The 981 Spyder received not so much Press for some reason. I guess I'm asking if the Market is becoming aware of these Special Boxster Spyders?
Also if there isn't a 4.0, it appears there will be a lot of disappointed people. |

Also if there isn't a 4.0, it appears there will be a lot of disappointed people. I would look for a used 987 Spyder or 981 Spyder or S/GTS at some point and either keep the Targa or trade it for another coupe. I regret trading my 981 GTS. |
Perhaps a more interesting question is whether people will care as much about the GT4 given we now have the manual option in GT3? If GT4 is less of an attention grabber, Spyder may get more love this time around.
Best to call around and get on a list for an MSRP car and hope for NA + 6MT. |

Also if there isn't a 4.0, it appears there will be a lot of disappointed people. I don’t think anyone would be disappointed with another 3.8 that has more power, it’s a fantastic, tried and true engine. Realistically the engine also has plenty of power considering the cars weight. I do think that out of the entire range of cars being produced by Porsche the Spyder and GT cars are the only remaining truly engaging offerings. That in itself bodes well for the cars future demand as we move closer and closer to autonomous driving. But in the grand scheme of things I have found that the overall value of these cars doesn’t necessarily matter since there’s nothing I would replace it with. |
Agree with above ^
I, too, have expressed my interest in the 982 Spyder with my dealership. I definitely hope the car has a 4.0, and I won't be purchasing the car should it have any kind of forced induction motor. If the car does not end up having the motor that I'm interested in, I will happily keep and enjoy my current 981 CGTS. |
