Default 718 Spyder Engine Crazy

This 718 Engine Question is driving me crazy lol These photos while interesting don't answer the big question: What darn engine is behind those seats?

Autocar in UK, normally reliable, have just reported the 4.0 https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...1-gt3-flat-six

I can't imagine what putting a $40k engine in the car will do to the price!

If the Spyder gets a 4L, GT suspension, and they call it the GT Spyder, that would be awesome. I could care less what it does to the value of my Spyder.

I disagree CS, the rising tide is going to raise all boats. The price of a Spyder like that is very likely to be eyebrow raising to most of us. Additionally, I'm sure it's going to be a beast, a true under the radar super car. However, older versions still venerable for the street, garaged examples with low miles in perfect condition are going to give you a lot of the "sensations" of the best Spyder for less than half of msrp. I think it's great news for Spyder owners that Porsche has decided to keep their crown jewel special and Spyder nation proud and satisfied with it's new flagship. Corvette is reportedly bench marking the new mid engine variant off of the Turbo S, meanwhile along comes a Spyder.....

Only compare it to the initial rumors of the 718 Spyder/GT4 to have turbos, if that happened, it wouldn't be a stretch then to see the 981 Spyder/GT4s would have rocketed vs. current values. I'm just happy to see Porsche is keeping with their proven playbook and isn't pulling a "BMW" bean counter / eco move.

I wonder how many of these, whatever the final built is, will reach the US shores. And how long the window to order will be. One year offering or open model? I hope the GT3 engine is real but this article rehashes a lot of previously known stuff. Likely but not convinced yet.

With the past two Spyders Porsche released them about 18 months before the end of the production run. The 987 Spyder was built for two model years but in reality the 2012 production was limited to a few months. I’m predicting they will release the next Spyder some time next year and build it for about a year with similar production numbers as the last two generations, 850 US and 2500 worldwide.

Agree, just seems too good to be true...however, the articles (like AutoCar) state it like it's a fact that they're maintaining N/A. The only current option across the line up are GT engines, since everything else is T-bo. Maybe they'll just severely de-tune the GT block so it's more Carrera S like instead.

Want'a guess at the base price of a Spyder with a GT3 engine? Mine is 103,000.

I'd up that speculation maybe not a lot more but more than that depending on how bold they get with the engine output.

Talking

One thirty to one forty with hi end options... At those prices they need to give it 425 + HP imho. 450 would seem about right.

And Autocar says that they are going back to the 987 Spyder erecto-top? Har-de-har-har! With PDK as an option....
