For better or worse, my dealer finally took a deposit for a Spyder today! I’m super-excited but still a little apprehensive due to all of the unknowns at this point.

Right. If it turns out to be a blown flat four instead of the 4.0 l, I will cry.

Lol. My other fear is that there may be an iBoxster coming soon enough to make me regret blowing what little capital I have on an ICE, just in time to see the advent of an instant torque electric roadster. Not much love for Tesla, but when Porsche does it to a two seater, I will bite, hook, line, and sinker.

I coughed up the $2500 deposit because unlike most of the Spyder web, I’m on my first P car (‘13 Boxster S) and hence I have zero pull with my dealer. I’m hoping for the early bird thing, maybe my enthusiasm will score points? Plus, I made it clear that the car will be a dd for me, it will be seen and generate lots of goodwill for the dealer The salesperson implied that their 918 owners will have to take a pass for me to get one, and I’m cool with that. I’d do the same if I had guys spending $900k a pop at my place.

I was an early bird for the 981 Spyder. We were climbing out of a recession. Not a lot of enthusiasm at the time - relative to the excellence IMHO of the final product.

I remember the launch of the 981, I guess Porsche sent all Boxster owners a very nicely bound book pushing the new Spyder. At that point, I was transitioning from a Boss 302 Mustang (don’t laugh unless you’ve driven one) to my Boxster.

My understanding is that the GT4 Clubsport gets the 3.8l, but that engine is not steet legal emission wise. So, the Spyder and GT4 will get the 4.0l engine from the GT3, but as usual, it will be neutered so it doesn’t butthurt the guys who doesn’t understand physics and pay mega bucks for an *** engined 911.

I dont see what's crazy about the GT4 and Spyder getting a 3 8 also. It is essentially the 991.1 GTS engine right? Should be emissions ready. And would they give the street version a larger more desirable engine than their high dollar club racer spec? I would guess no.
