Unhappy Stripped headlamp removal mechanism

Hi. So I have a used 2010 Boxster. I received, within a couple of days of each other, the ‘check dipped beams’ error for both sides. I ordered new bulbs and when they arrived started to replace them.

Passenger side went fine, but on the drivers side, the tool catches briefly then spins round and round - leading me to believe that sides mechanism is stripped.

Any thoughts on how to a) get the lamp out while it’s stripped and b) what that PN would be for replacements?

I tried both extra long, thin needle nose pliers to no avail, as well as a bit of gorilla glue but neither worked.

Any ideas?

Turns out the part I need to access/turn is called the ‘clamping bow’. But I need to twist it to release the headlamp to replace it. Argh.

Maybe mix up some JB weld and put it on the end of the headlight tool. Let it set for a couple hours and then attempt to twist it.

And make sure the first attempt, you turn it in the correct direction as you may not get a second chance.

Indeed. And at least on 981s (mechanism below headlight), that is FORWARD, meaning (US cars) driver's side clockwise, and passenger side counterclockwise. Good luck.

Old thread but I’m dealing with the same exact issue. Any resolution or tips?

found a solution: use a E8 torx socket (I used a 1/4” drive). Slides right on and gives enough bite to turn the lever.
