Default New 981 spyder

I just moved to UK and left behind a few fun toys in US. I’ve never owned a convertible. After I’ve been here a while I realized the irony of London’s cloudy weather is that it was ideal for a convertible. In looking for an all-in-one choice, the 981 spyder stood out. I owned a gt4 in US and remembered its ease of use compared to a 997gt or AC car. Throw in the topless option and slightly more compliant suspension and I’m in love for a car I can cruise thru central London and out on country roads.

I’ve ALWAYS been a coupe/hard core GT guy but this spyder is changing my mind. It’s an unbelievable all around athlete. Not nearly as visceral as a lot of cars I’ve owned but great balance between use-ability and fun. Making me question if I need so many choices when I go back to the states. Name: photo443.jpg

Welcome to Spyder Nation!

You're right about cloudy London weather being the best for top-down motoring -- the UK is definitely Spyder Country.

Enjoy!

Wow. Good choice man. I drive my convertibles 365 in Vancouver, BC, which is very similar to London, England.

Will do.

I’ve only had it on road 1x so far. Weather looks decent this coming weekend. Fingers crossed. Quite an all-around package: my initial take.

Yup, we are proportionally the world’s biggest market for convertibles, apparently. Like to make the most of any good weather we get!

I drive my 2015 991.1 GT3 every single day through the driving season since I bought it new in January 2015. I drive it to Home Depot spooling up a roll of PEX plumbing in the frunk, take it to work everyday, drove it to a landscaping nursery in a muddy parking lot to check out some plants last week.

Feel sorry for those that park them and stare...

I plan on driving my 2018 GT3 and 2018 Ferrari 488GTB as much daily as possible as well.

The answer is in your post. If you can afford a new GT3 And 488GTB then you don't have to care as much. It's like having a closet full of suits versus one, when it's one there's more pressure to make it stay perfect as long as you can. If I wiped my backside with stupid money I'd drive the thing to depot too.

So that justifies reason to drive the cars more?? If you can afford a GT3 but can't afford to drive it as much as you'd like because of concern of the mileage and worrying constantly about its depreciation etc....going exactly against the engineers who designed 991s...a car to be driven daily if desired....then you probably can't really afford the car.

Just because I drive the car everywhere doesn't mean that I abuse it. I just drive it. Does that mean I shouldn't care about it? I just know that in reality, people treat the car too carefully when in reality, just driving it as its meant to be will be just fine. ....it's all in your head; just drive the car.

Where did I say you abused it or you didn't care about it guy? Newsflash for you some on here don't have a Porsche in their three car garage that looks like living space or posted photos of that car next to a Gulfstream G650; if by that measure that means we can't afford the car or shouldn't have one then color me guilty. Additionally, if not wanting the vehicle to get door dings or sun damage from sitting outside top down is too careful, again I'm guilty. Nobody is impugning your car care metrics, merely pointing out that someone of great wealth can more easily replace their toys and as such they can play with them more, trying to take the best care of a treasured acquisition is not a crime.

PS Enjoy your wealth and life, I'm in no way suggesting you didn't earn it or that you don't deserve it, good on you, live your best life.
