Default Feeler: 987.2 Boxster PDK - Thoughts on Sale Price

Hi all,

First post in this part of the forum, I'm typically over in the Cayenne area. I purchased a 2009 Boxster base for my parents in May 2016 and their needs have changed so they're considering moving into something else. Looking on here, 6Speed, Autotrader and Cars.com, there aren't a whole lot of them for sale so it's hard to know where the price should be. Any thoughts from recent purchases/sales of comparable spec'd, age and condition cars would be most helpful.

Here's the highlights and a couple of photos (high-resolutions shots to follow once we officially list it):

Summary:
Owners: 2
Current Milage: 48,xxx
Transmission: PDK (automatic)
Exterior color: Cararra white
Interior color: Black leather
Title Status: in-hand, free and clear of liens
CarFax: 100% clear, no accidents of any kind or size

Optional Equipment:
PDK transmission
Heated front seats
Auto climate control
Bluetooth phone interface
Universal audio interface
Floor mats in interior color
Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic cornering
19” Carrara Sport wheels

Recent Service/Maintenance Completed:
Replaced RMS
New front rotors, pads and sensors
New front tires (rears have ~8k miles on them)
2x cabin and oil filters
2x oil changes
Sum total of $7,819.49

Thanks

Michael

From what I've seen lately, I'd guess maybe $20K, likely a bit less.
I am really basing that on what I bought mine for two years ago carried forward to today which is not a real accurate assessment method.
In any case it should appeal to those who are not looking for the usual silver or black colors that (seemingly) 90% of the cars were ordered with.

I've got a similar Boxster in terms of year and equipment. Even the same current mileage.

Let's see what others have to say based on recent sales......

Nice car I would say 25-26k based on the recent maintenance and mileage.

Wow, if '09 base models are still selling for mid $20s, I've not lost any value over the last two years and 12K miles added to mine. Excellent!

Just because cars are listed on Autotrader for mid to upper 20s doesn't mean that they're selling. There are a lot of dreamers out there.

Check eBay and look for sold listings. That's a really good indicator of what you can realistically sell a car for. We're approaching the end of summer - bad time to sell a convertible.

I'd also suggest critically looking at the tread on those rear tires. You may have better luck selling it with four new tires. Folks buying a $20K car are typically a bit more stretched for funds than most of us here, and they want a turnkey purchase with no surprises.

Quite solid advice.

$20k is a sadly a reasonable price. I've noted several 987.2 vehicles that the seller was asking $26-29k. After 3 months and $1500-2000 price drops they pulled their ads but I see a few are back again asking $1k over what they were last asking for. Even looking on ebay a 09 Cayman with 60k only got one bid at $21k. Contrast this to Cars.com where prices range from $24-27k for equivalent cars and these ads have been posted for months.
