Sold my 997 C2S and bought a 981 Cayman
I am not new to Rennlist. However, I have mostly hung out in the 997 area for a few years now. I decided to privately sell my 997.1 C2S because I simply got tired of it... It had a Tip
I had it up for sale for about two weeks before someone made me an offer. My wife and I were on the fence about selling the car and almost took it off the market. Luckily the buyer gave me full asking price and I hesitantly gave him the keys.
After spending some time figuring out what I liked and didn't like about my 997, I started putting together an ideal vehicle that would meet my needs and satisfy my Porsche bug.
Few things I did not like about my 997;
1. Sport Suspension (too harsh in downtown driving)
2. Tip transmission (Need I say more)
3. All black interior (Too dark for my taste)
4. Dinosaur sound system and nav (Outdated junk)
5. Road noise
6. Upgraded Sport Seats (Too stiff for my back and it had no memory)
7. Sticky interior (Due to old age)
Few things I loved about my 997;
1. Used Market price of $35k-$43k (Within my Budget)
2. Handling
3. Styling
4. Decent speed and acceleration even with the Tip.
5. Reliability
With all things considered I started configuring my ideal 718 Cayman which after countless revisions would typically sticker at around $63k-$67k. This was a bit too rich for my blood so I turned to the used market of the 981. All the features that I wanted in the 718, I tried to look for in the 981 Cayman.
These are the must haves for my new Porsche;
1. PDK
2. Two tone interior (Leather Package)
3. Bose Sound System
4. Navigation
5. 19" wheels (Larger wheels are prone to road rash)
6. Lighter exterior color (White or Silver)
7. Self dimming mirrors
8. Memory seats
After countless hours of searching the internet I pulled the trigger and I am loving it!!! The car handles and drives like a dream come true. The interior reminds me of an Audi which is better than the sticky interior of the 997. The cabin atmosphere is really pleasant and there is less noticeable road noise. Steering is a bit muted when compared to the 997 but the cornering is much better. The sound the engine makes is so much better than the 997 and the high revving 2.7 liter is just enough power to get the job done legally. I feel like I use the entire rev range throughout my commute vs the 997 where I only used the lower rpm range in order to avoid a speeding ticket.
All in all, I am happy with my purchase and I think this vehicle is more suited for my needs than the 997. I am getting the best of both worlds in comfort and performance. I am happy to join the 981 Cayman Team.

I like the looks of the 981s and the performance. Just suits me.
My 2016 CS would probably be sold though for the right 997.2 GT3 - or of course a 991 911R. Beings the later won't happen then it makes my choices easy.
Congrats on the new 981.

Well yeah... But you know the old saying, "never meet your heroes". I like a car that I can drive daily, I have never been the type to keep a garage queen.

Fantastic choice my friend. I too moved into a Cayman this last Jan with the Agate Gray - Orange interior. Love it. I agree with you - the little 2.7 is gem and just enough power to get you into jail if you push it.
Welcome and thanks for posting!
