Driving feel is one thing. Fit and finish is another. The 9x1s are eons ahead of the 9x7s in fit and finish.

I respectfully beg to differ and mine doesn't even have leather, a/c and cup holders. Less fluff the better .. After all its a spyder I just spend more time driving it as no time is spent applying leather conditioner
Like others said. They're both great cars. Drive and then decide. For me the top is a huge draw on the 987. never missed a/c even in 95 degree weather given how the top is designed. I mean it.

To the OP - where are you located? Happy to offer my Spyder up to a fellow enthusiast for a test drive. I'm in SoCal.

I drove a friend's 987 Spyder a few years ago. It was a Porsche club parade lap event at the Sebring 12 hour race week. I felt it was a nice car, but the engine note even with sport exhaust did not register emotionally with me. The power was underwhelming.

Thus, when my SA offered me a 981 Spyder allocation as a consolation prize for being late to the GT4 party, I wasn't enthusiastic. However, the chance to snag a Boxster with a 3.8 was too good of a chance to let go. The rest is history. I'm quite glad I got the consolation prize. I have no plans to sell it anytime soon.

This story won't likely persuade you. I just thought I'd relate as a point of emphasis on the value of driving both cars prior to making a decision like that.

If you can come out to AZ I'll swap cars with you for a day. For me the 987.2 has more than enough power. Having said that, over the course of my life i've learned having more power is not a bad thing. chuckle. Personally I think the 987.2 is much better looking but I prefer the smoother simpler lines and others prefer the more complex nature of the 981's design. Subjective to be sure.
