Sweet. Will advise once i dive into it. Got sidelined today by a bolt on the tollway that blew a 40mm hole in one of my rear tires.

Bingo! Thanks to our original poster and thanks to Fred for the instructions. It is, indeed, pretty easy to install. Note that part ended 33 is driver's side and part ended in 34 is passenger side.

The process only really takes a little patience as one is careful to not screw up the car, but it is a simple "move the stuff", "install the parts", "put stuff back" affair. Thanks much for tip on marking location of wiper blades in advance of removal (I used painter's tape to mark their position on the windshield). Take care removing wiper arms, spring-loaded bits are stronger than you might expect.

If I recall correctly you'll need a small Torx bit (T20?), 10mm / 15mm sockets and same sized open end wrenches. It think that's about it.

Some pics of in process and finished. Please excuse the dusty parts and dirty hand prints. Rest assured, it was all shiny and clean when it went back together.



Driver's side, trim under wipers lifted to allow view of mounting bolt in the "console".



Passenger's did, trim lifted to allow view of bolt in "console".



Finished install awaiting replacement of trip pieces.

Nice job and thank you for the pics!

Out of curiosity, why do the wipers need to come out? Is that the only way to access the upper attachment point?

Let us know if you notice an difference.

A strut brace is certainly another possible option as noted above, I am curious though if it will get in the way of the plastic trim pieces.

Yes, per Fred's instructions... you need to be able to lift that trim piece enough to get the bolt in and a wrench on it (I used a ratcheting flat wrench). In my case, that required removal of the wiper arms.

I've pounded out 5+ hours of seat time since installing the 997 braces. 100% street, no track time. My impression aligns with Lucas' original post about reducing chassis flex a bit and a perceived impact on vibration "reverb".

Your mileage may vary, but for now, I'm pleased with the install and with the results.

I did this mod also on my Boxster spyder - works well and easy to install. Thanks for all the help in what to order. The dealer did mess up and send me one of the wrong parts also though , so if anyone is still looking to buy these, I have just the passenger side part for sale here also: https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1156208

anyone thought why Porsche had these for the 987.1 and decided to drop it for the 987.2?

I would hazard my guess that the cars were being assembled on different lines at some point. While the 987 front assembly and the 997 front assembly seem to incorporate the same set of 997 stampings, they would likely need to be primed and painted... then the screw holes for the braces would be drilled and tapped. On a 987-specific line (either .1 or .2) that step would no longer be needed. Hence, lack of screw holes on some 987's.

Maybe the front clips were all made together, once upon a time. Subsequently not. ???

Just my 2 cents.

Manufacturing of the 987 was originally at the Valmet plant in Finland from 1997 to 2011. The 987 Spyders were made in Stuttgart as it was the end of the production run and I believe the contract had run out at Valmet.

The 997 was made in Stuttgart and Baden Wurttemberg Germany so there aren’t really any similarities.

But stampings are all typically done at the same manufacturing plant/supplier and I could see that drill and tap being done during the stamping/finishing process of the strut towers to avoid having two different parts and the logistics going along with that. That’s why it’s surprising that some cars don’t have these holes, or maybe they all have them?

None of them have the bracing installed at the factory which is odd.
