Question Would you get a ppi if Porsche Certified?

Looking at 2013 Boxster S with 7,500 miles on it.

Porsche certified.

What do you guys think? PPI or not?

PDK or manual trans? How long do you intend to keep? Have you had eyes on the car?

Yes, you should IMHO. Many think it gets you a showroom new car. It does not. CPO only gets you two more years on the warranty.

CPO cars can have paint and body work. And if the tech misses something (wink, wink) or an accident was not reported to Carfax (many are not), then it can be CPO'ed.

Take a gander at this and good luck,

Eddie

less of an issue if you buy from dealer and the CPO is recent; however, lots can happen after someone buys the CPO car from the dealer and then sells to you. I'd at least get a DME report and have a shop look over the car to ensure no body work or major mechanical issues, and status of consumables. In fact, check the date on the CPO. I had a friend once almost buy a CPO car from a dealer, and the CPO certification was over a year old. The car needed pads, rotors, tires, and had a bunch of gouges on the underside of the car and front spoiler.

Thumbs up Thanks!

Thanks gents!

Guess I'll get a PPI.

I believe the dealer just certified it as it wasn't certified last week, at least the web site didn't say it was, who knows.

Might as well get the PPI.

Had one done with the 993 TT I bought back in 2005, might as well with this one.

I plan on keeping it for awhile. May be the last toy I buy unless I hit a huge lottery.

I did not , bought cpo with history from a reputable porsche dealer. It depends on the car, mine clearly had zero body work and service history and pdk. If manual and no history i may have done a ppi.

Agree with Hyper, I did the same thing of course I too have PDK. I'm not convinced a PPI would reveal whether the owner of a manual box knew how to properly use it either. Sure the rev report is handy but it will never tell you whether the PO used the clutch to hold the car at lights on a hill or whether they chose to downshift a lot wearing out synchronizers instead of much cheaper brake linings or whether they used the clutch as a sanding disc while they mastered the ability to shift.

yes, if buying from dealer and they just cpo'd the car, you should be able to view the cpo inspection paperwork as well as view the DME report without additional cost. I dont' think an additional PPI is necessary in this situation.

I always recommend a PPI. However, when I bought my 981 S from a dealer, CPO, with I think around 14K miles, I didn't bother. As it turned out, the car was basically alright and the PPI probably wouldn't have mentioned the surging issue ("they all do that") or the small stain in the seat.

That 2013 is selling for $53K? Holy smokes. I paid that for my 2014 18 months ago. I guess 718s have really kept up the values of 981s.

I was thinking the same thing - that $53K is a lot to pay for a 2013 BS with 7500 miles. Given what the dealer is asking for that car, what do you think a 2016 BS in GT Silver/full black leather/Bose/PASM/PSE/6MT, and full XPEL might be worth? Just happen to have one with 544 miles. Not one flaw anywhere on the car. At least you KNOW you wouldn't need a PPI done on my car. Not that I'm selling it, of course, but hmmmm........

544 miles? Museum piece?

I have 19,875 on mine, have had it for precisely 18 months as of today. I have loved every mile so far. Sold the GT4 and kept the BS, that's how much I love it.

Tough question- I bought my .2GT3 CPO'ed from a remote dealer. It only had 800 miles on it in a year and half and the dealer was selling it for a customer. I basically bought it site unseen but had DME report, the CPO paperwork and a ton of pictures...
My son and flew in, checked it out (thankfully no surprises) and drove it home. Put more miles on it the first day than it had had in 1 1/2 years!!
An older car with more miles- not sure what I'd do...

(bought a CPO'ed Audi A8 the same way- CPO is a great way to get a great car at a hell of a price!! My son just got a 2 year old S8 CPO'ed - great deal also from a remote dealership. Always a fun drive home!)
