I brought my 2014 BS to Tysons Corner Porsche for maintenance and was charged 650 taxes included for a standard oil change and inspection. This seems too high, even for a dealership - not to mention they took it for a 20 mile joyride. Is this typical pricing in the DC/Potomac area, or did these guys rip me off?

Well, they claim that 650 is their price for the "yearly service" (i.e. oil change and test drive) and that I misunderstood what was being offered, since I was under the impression they'd be doing the 20k maintenance. I believe they mentioned the 20k maintenance at some point, because I didn't even know there was a 20k maintenance before I brought my car there. Additionally, that price seems absurdly high for essentially just an oil change. Not sure what I can do at this point.

They ripped you off. I've been there too. Take your car to a local independent shop, such as Intersport, Autosportsystems group, Autotherapy, Autobahn or Chapmans.

Or do it yourself.

I don't have a garage, so DIY is out of the option. Unbelievable...these guys are complete crooks. The car was at 17k miles, they told me they'd be doing the 20k mile maintenance ( (which should include new air filters, brake fluid flush, etc.), and they just ended up charging the 20k maintenance pricing for a standard oil change.

Fault's on me for not looking closely at the receipt afterwards, but I didn't expect them to just lie.

If you are performance or track oriented, Intersport or ASG are both excellent, though not cheap. Autobahn in Fairfax is a fine shop with reasonable prices (for Porsche). I have also done business with Autotherapy in Rockville and been satisfied. If you are not already a PCA Potomac member come on out to one of our events. We'll be at Summit Point, Shenandoah track the first weekend in June. Spectators welcome!

Funny enough, I joined PCA Potomac, but ever since work ramped up, I haven't had a chance to make it out to an event. Will see you guys at the next brunch.

Wow that's unacceptable, the company should correct dealer activities like that. It's not just Porsche either, the Ford dealer tried to charge me for a recall, AFTER they said it would be no charge. Ford corporate got them on the phone and the next thing I knew it was back to no charge, freaking thieving bastards.

I can personally vouch for Autosportsystems Group and Taylor Chapman (now at Chapmans). They were the only people I let work on my cars from 1994 until I moved out of the area in 2006.

I took my BS to Porsche of Warrington (PA) for first oil change and inspection. Oil change parts and labor was $300 and inspection/emissions was less than $50. Look, $300 for an oil service is ridiculous too, but you really got ripped off. Next time, for routine oil service, bleeding brakes etc., I may go the inde route also.

I think I paid like 270 for my annual oil change and inspection. I am pretty sure I got something else done there as well that's why it came out to 270. 650 is just insane. If not it should be illegal for people to price gouge that much!

And a joyride!??! I would be effing pissed off and be raising hell.

If they told you that they were doing a 20k service and only did a oil service, I'd go back to them and ask them to do the full 20k service or refund the difference to you. A 20k service requires that they do a road test, but 20 miles seems a bit much.

BTW, $650 (tax incl.) is in the range for a 20k service. Just an oil service should run you about $250 to $300. Prices will vary dramatically depending on where you live.

Also, as a Porsche Club of America member most dealers (and some independents) will give you a discount (~10%).

I called the local Range Rover dealers for the cost of annual service for my other car. One was $425 and one was $1340 so best to always shop it before you schedule service.

you need to tell the dealer not to change the cabin filter and no brake fluid flush that will bring the cost down

Recommendation is for brake fluid flush every two years, regardless of mileage. Cabin filter, agree.

Did the OP not get an estimate before getting the work done?

Either way, he/she needs to go back to the dealer, speak with the service manager and get the work that was promised, completed.

As for "test drive", few mechanics want to take the time (which they don't get paid for) to take it for a test drive of more than a few miles. I'd ask about that as well.

I don't see why anyone would just roll over and take this without saying something.
