C&D: new gen GT4 will not be turbo
From Car and Driver dated 5-5-2017. New GT4 will not be turbo and still offer manual transmission. Only speculation on what NA motor will be used.
Hopefully a new generation Spyder will also follow suit with NA and manual.

This is merely speculation.

Not surprised at all. I'm more interested in knowing if they do more to make it lighter and more focused. That would be cool to see.

A Preuninger quote from the article: “Natural aspiration is one of our main selling propositions,” Preuninger said. “We offer a car for people who want to feel something special, who want to have as much emotion as possible, as much throttle response and immediacy from a sports-car engine. And at Motorsport we think that can be achieved a little bit better with a [naturally aspirated] high-revving engine than any kind of turbo.”
I'm starting to wonder if he has a BS in engineering and a MS in Marketing

I'm curious what engine and if they'll offer it in a PDK option.

We already knew this. I wonder how many more new post we will get in here stating the same thing over and over. It's going to be a long year!

It would be nice to see an actual transcript of the interview (or whatever it was) with AP, because I can't tell from the article if AP ever referred specifically to the GT4 or to just GT cars in general.
The article goes on to say there are hints that the next GT2 would not use turbos, but then adds in this curious quote from AP:
“GT has got a naturally aspirated engine religion almost, and we don’t think it would be a wise move to shy away from that and turn around at the pinnacle of success of these cars and try something else without any necessity to do it,” he said. “Why not have the Motorsports cars NA and the standard Carreras turbocharged? I don’t see a problem with that, everyone can choose what he wants to have.”
The problem is, we don't know what "these cars" means specifically. Making the GT2 N/A would be "trying something else" since it's always been turbo.
Is it possible that Porsche would continue to develop the 9A1 that is currently in the GT4? We know there's quite a bit more power left on the table, definitely enough for the usual 20-30 hp generational bump.

if it is not turbo, then it has to be 3.8L with X51 package. (heads, cams, throttle body etc). 430hp.
Porsche are known for incremental performance/changes.... So perhaps a 4.0L DFI would be too much to ask....
Although, competition in GT4 worldwide racing might put a flame to their ***.
If my GT4CS had 430hp, i would be happy.

Yeah, it's all about incremental, iterative and evolutionary road map with Porsche. I don't expect power bump beyond 430 hp. A 3.8 + X51 would be all they need. Since they tend to raid existing parts bin, a 3.8 is not in production. They can spin up a line; but, it will disrupt the production line for low volume niche models (GT4 + Spyder).
Dropping a 4.0 in would be expensive. De-tuning could create other headaches. Then you have a problem of encroaching into brand equity of GT3! But, a precedent has already been set: no one expected to see a 3.8 from C2 S in a 981! They pulled a fast one there. Can they pull a similar act? I would love a 4.0 with 8000 RPM (GT3 can have 9k)! Don't care about power as I don't track. Just make the peak power near redline, shorten the gearing, make the engine/exhaust even louder; and, I would live happily ever after!!

But would they be so kind?

And no word on the Spyder. Previously there was some talk of the Spyder not being part of the GT program and thus did not have the full-on GT suspension etc... So will it have the H6? Or stick with an enhanced turbo'd H4? And so we wait...
