Default Anyone Tracking their 718S?

Anyone doing any serious tracking with a 718S Cayman or Boxster?

Looking for input as to reliability issues, modifications, tire/brake pads being used etc. I'm trying to decide between a 718S Cayman or a 981 GTS. I don't really want to start a 718 vs 981 discussion, I'm more interested in actual 718 owner track related feedback.

Not much on Planet-9 regarding tracking the 718. May be too new.
Hopefully some early adopters will chime in. Interested to hear how the new turbo engines do.

One other consideration - a 981GTS will be significantly less expensive to purchase, even with a CPO warranty.

Ok: So, CJ brought out a 718S PDK Cayman to our track day a few weeks ago, with Christina Nielsen driving the CRAP out of it all day. NO issues, except for well, the tires :-) Not a hot day, but no issues.

Car is fast. Like really fast. And really composted. These are good cars. Really good. Car was 100% stock.

Got it down to about 10K difference between a GTS and a slightly used 718CS. I'm thinking the fact that the 718 won't need a brake system upgrade plus added performance will make this pretty much a push.

Was it Lava Orange by any chance?

Yes I read the thread about that track day (wanted to attend but had a family Easter thing to attend in NorCal) and that got me motivated to take another look at a 718. I would go the GT4 route if it had PDK but I want a car my wife can drive on occasion and also one less pricey than the 'RS to flog on the track.

Don't the GTS and 718S have the same brakes? 330mm front, 299mm rear with 4-piston calipers all around? Although the 718 has the closed top calipers front & rear, where the GTS has the older style rear calipers that allow pad changes without caliper removal.

Yes you're right they are 330/299mm and 4-piston all around. I guess the only change is the calipers? I kept reading that it got the 991 C2 brakes and thinking it was a big improvement. So may still have to do some upgrading there.

We take the 718 on the handling Circuit everyday at the Porsche Experience Center Los Angeles.
One of my favorite cars to drive!

I just traded in my 991 RS and ordered a 718 S Boxster that I will be tracking. Since I'm a Honda Dealer I decided to get an Ariel Atom Spec Racer as well as the 718 S to track in place of the RS. I've owned a 09 Boxster, 12 Cayman R, 15 GT3 and the 16 RS, all of them tracked about 16 times a year.

I'm looking forward to being the underdog with the "Flat Four" for the Fun of it.

I'm interested in hearing comments from others who run Track Days with the 718.

Default 718 Cayman S

Yes, I tracked it at a PCA HPDE last weekend. It was amazing. Handles like a dream and has tons of power. I have a PDK with sport chrono and PASM. Sport plus mode with sport mode PASM made it perfect on the track. It was extremely composed and yet hauled ***. I was blowing everyone away except for a GT4. And people said the engine sounded great when I passed them, which is a nice bonus. While I'm a fairly novice driver, I had a red group instructor that drives a tricked-out track Cayman try taking it out, and he was pretty much giggling himself around the track because of how much fun it was to drive, even for an old pro. I can't recommend it highly enough if you have the money for the car- and the track insurance. I did it with 100% stock parts the first DE, but need to replace the brake fluid and pads before the next event.
