Couple of questions for you. I've always had the impression titanium lug bolt threads, compared to other titanium parts, are less strong than the factory steel ones, especially after several removals at 118 lb/ft of torque. Weight savings is great as long as you can't lose a wheel in a corner at 1+G load. Do you happen to know what's the strength rating of a factory bolt, as well as yours? And the last question is if you make them in black. Thanks.

We do not make them in black. We also do not torque them to 138 ft. lbs., where did you come up with that number?

Our threads are rolled making them stronger than a cut thread but the factory lug bolts have rolled threads as well. The titanium grade 5 alloy is storming like a steel bolt, just a lot lighter. If you were to use a bolt made from a different grade titanium like pure titanium (grade 2) the metal would be very soft. In essence, you are right that titanium itself is not strong but grade 5 is an alloy that is very strong and ideal for this use.

As a note I have had them installed on my Spyder for the past year and haven't had any issues. They have been removed a few times in that span and I haven't observed any galling on the threads.

Before buying them I did some research on metal strength and it is very obvious why Porsche selected the steel for their bolts, they are one of the strongest metals available. What I found is that Titanium alloy is nearly as strong (I don't remember exact strength figures) as steel.

As far as torque I know the 987.2 require 96 ftlbs of torque, I'm not sure what the torque requirement is for the 981 but 118 does seem high.

118 ft-lbs is the spec listed in the manual.

I thought you said 138 ft lbs., not 118. You still do not need to torque a 14mm wheel bolt that high. Just under 100 lbs. is fine.

I said 118 all along (you can see that my post is not edited), hence my question. And yes, that's exactly what Porsche specifies. There must be a reason for that, and since I like to push my car sometimes, I'm not going to second-guess them. But my wheel lugnuts are black (black/polished turbo wheels), and want to keep them that way, so guess will keep the stockers. But thank you for your reply.

Any thoughts of offering studs/nuts in the future?

Just received and installed these in my 2011 Cayman. Highly recommended. I didn't realize how much cleaner they make my Cayman look over the rusted OEM bolts.

Just buy them.

We have that as well. We have a titanium stud with a titanium open lug nut with the factory Porsche seat.

Now that they are PCA approved our titanium lugs can be used at track events.

I'll probably pick up a set in the future once my oem ones start looking like rusty ***. They look pretty great per some pictures I saw on the P9 forums: http://www.planet-9.com/porsche-tire...eel-bolts.html

Do you have M14 x 1.5 open ended lugs with a 60 Degree taper? Short kind like the 911 nuts?

I do have those available. You would need to call me to get those. They are the open ended style.
