Sport Auto (Germany) did a supertest and if I remember the times correct the Spyder was faster than the 996 GT3 RS on the Nordschleife and faster than the 997 Gen 1 GT3 in Hockenheim..... can check on the article and post later today.

The best time for the 996 GT3 RS is a 7:43, so that would put the Spyder equal or faster than the GT4 if it's true.

Attached correct statements..... Faster in Hockenheim than 996 RS and 997 GT3 (1)... see attached Sport Auto 11/2015

Hey thanks for that post il Pirata and hets72. Wow the GT4 is so much quicker than the Spyder. I'm a little surprised.

Adjustable suspension and I think better tires standard. Makes a big difference

.... article talks about lower mechanical grip (different tires, suspension) as well as lower downforce (difference on the Nordschleife)..... when you look at the details the Spyder actually has lift at 200KM while the GT4 is producing downforce.... look under "Windkanal" on the Hockenheim page... Also in the article is comment about that the spyder requiring more committment/skill than the GT4 to get to that time as at high speed more difficult to drive....

7 seconds is a little bit less than 1% difference.

Take those Pirellis and put Michelin PS2 and see what happens!

I bet the Spyder would best the GT4 with equal tires

Why would you think the Spyder would be faster than the GT4, given the suspension and grip advantages of the GT4?

Tires aren't going to make up that much time on the Ring. The C2S ran faster on Pirellis.

^ Do you think it's the aero: the larger front splitter and the rear wing? Or is it the horsepower, or all the above?

Lift at 200kmh isn't cool for a car that goes 180+mph. Just saying.

yeah lift at 125 mph is not good. I wonder why Porsche wouldn't have worked out the aero parts to create sufficient downforce. Maybe not as great as the GT4 but lift at 125 mph? Really.

My apologies, the difference is 1.5%

Spyder: Less weight, lower center of gravity
GT4: More down force

I think at the end is a wash. 2 secs difference between cars in a circuit that tales 7+ min to complete is just not significant. Even 7 secs could be considered within the margin of error of a human driver and differences in atmospheric conditions.
