Default Spyder Canopy w/o Wind Deflector Question

One of the things I love about the Spyder is the three driving experiences it offers with the full top, canvas only and topless capabilities. Most of my driving is with the top completely off as I really love the open top experience but occasionally I do need to put the canvas top up if it's too hot or too cold.

The cool thing about having the canvas top on is the sound and air you feel behind you, it seems even more concentrated. Something I have never done is remove the wind deflector in the middle with the canvas top on and I'm curious if this adds even more sound and air while keeping the cabin climate reasonable on extreme temperature days. Has anyone ever tried this and can you describe if it differs?

Actually this is my preferred way to drive it for exact reason you listed. I hope the 981 Spyder offers the same option.

It is much noisier with the deflector removed and there is certainly more air movement. I have only driven it that way one time but it was a long drive on a very hot, sunny Florida day and I did not turn the AC on due to all the air movement.

Well Newport Beach until today was averaging 77 for the month and I didn't even know what a top was..till today and this morning I threw on just the top and I kinda like it as when I engage the sport exhaust it's like angels in heaven singing.

I used to love driving with just the canopy on. Good protection from the sun while enjoying that exhaust note.

With just the top canopy on minus the wind deflector is was to noisy. There was more wind/air but scattered Also the top flapped allot.

Thanks for all the responses. It sounds like Canopy with wind deflector is the way to go. You still get the sound coming in from behind the seats but without excessive air buffeting. Now we need the salt washed off the roads and some warmer weather!

In my best educated opinion the most unique Spyder experience is achieved with the canopy on windows down and wind deflector off. A la soft window targa style. Having the wind deflector on when the top is on dilutes the experience for the most part.

Driving with the top on and the wind deflector off is my preferred configuration. Keeps the sun from beating on you and there is plenty of airflow.

Default Top Options

I tend to run in all situations without the wind deflector nor the roll bar baffles.

In perfect conditions, everything is off or down.

If it is warm/hot and the sun is unbearable, the canopy goes up and the windows stay down. No weather shield.

If it is cool, I run with the canopy on, windows up, weather shield off, heat on, and seat heaters on.

If it is raining, I run with with the canopy on and windows up.

Finally, if it is raining heavily, then everything goes on except the wind deflector (which is stored at home).

There is a black cloth case that should be in the trunk. It is loose so it could slide around but at least it's protected
