Default I got to drive a new Cayman GTS

My friend took delivery of a carrara white metallic GTS optioned with manual tranny, PTV, and X73 sport suspension this past Friday. I had a chance to drive the car for a little and thought I would share my impressions:

1) The car is stunning in person. It was parked next to a base 991 and the 991 looked totally boring and uninspiring. There are many subtle things about the GTS model. The sum of those subtle changes really make it look special. I've never seen gloss black trim on any Porsche before. The car has black lug bolts, black washer nipples, THIRD radiator, fascia and diffuser upgrades. The standard full leather and alcantara trim is NICE.

2) The sound. OMG the sound. Apparently the GTS has added sound symposers that direct more noise into the cabin. My spyder sound totally lame compared to the new GTS. No video or microphone can really capture it. You must drive in one to really understand. That's all I can say. HUGE smile on my face. I started to wonder how the 991 GT3 could sound better than this car. Then I heard one tear off and said... oh.. never mind. 991 GT3 is even louder. I do think that in lower rpms that the GTS cayman probably sounds better than the GT3. However, at WOT higher revs... yeah, 991GT3 wins. Porsche is amazing.

3) The suspension. Feels much more planted and compliant than the spyder. Spyder is definitely a harsher ride compared to the x73 GTS suspension. Will have ask my friend to try it out on track once it's broken in.

4) Carrara white metallic. A first I thought it would have that 'pearlish' look, but there is no hint of that. In the bright daylight it looks pure white. In the shade, you get a nice grayish hue to it that I really love. Loved it so much that I changed the 991 GT3 order from carrara white to carrara white metallic as well.

5) power. Definitely more torque and power than the spyder. I'm guessing the engine is underrated and making at least the 350hp that the base carrera makes.

6) The autoblip function in sport plus mode is neat. Works perfectly. I still prefer to heel/toe on my own, though. Wish that it wasn't linked to the sport plus button.

I love what they did to the front bumper, it looks even more aggressive and sporty.

So Joe.......are you still following through with purchase of a new GT3 or will you wait for the GT4, inquiring minds want to know!

Joe have you seen the Cayman GTS in any other colors?

I have seen the Carmine Red in person and it looks good other colors besides the whites for me would be Agate and Sapphire Blue... with any of the colors I would go with the Carmine Red GTS interior package

The 981 has a more rigid chassis, so it can take stiffer springs without feeling harsh/jarring. Beautiful pics/car.

I haven't. However, my other friend will be taking delivery of a carmine red GTS in about a month. That color will look good as well. Any Porsche 'release color' looks good, and arguably the best.
