Default My 1:52 at Sonoma Raceway

Hey guys,

I finished my last track day for the year yesterday and had a blast. After figuring out that I could run lower tire pressures with my -2.8F/-2.4R camber, I got the car to hook up during the last session of the day and managed to get a personal best lap time of 1:52 at Sonoma Raceway. I cannot attribute the improvement to my recent weight loss of 7 pounds because I had a passenger in the seat.

Here's the lap. You can see I was pleased with the lap at the end.

Here's a helmet cam/first person view that I was playing around with:

I love this car.

Great lap.

Do you think stiffer ARB would let you run less camber ?

I see the cayman R has a stiffer rear ARB and imo drives with less understeer.
I own both and think maybe fitted stiffer ARB would help the car and allow me to run less camber which would help wear and increase braking performance.

Good question and thought. I don't know the answer.
I will say that even with the camber I'm running, the car tracks just fine, stable with freeway/street driving, stable under braking, and tire wear looks very even now. So, I don't feel a need to change the ARB since I'm happy with the car 'as is' right now.

LOL, Thanks! I'll probably ditch the footwell cam when I drive a PDK car.

Haha, thanks man! I picked up some ideas from your videos.
When are you gonna pull the trigger on another car?

Excellent job, Joe. Fun stuff!

Are you sure you wanna track a 991 GT3 instead? Well, OK, the GT3 will likely be phenomenal... but you'd better keep both!! (and give me a ride in the GT3 if I ever make it out to the Corkscrew...)

Forgot to comment on the ARB (anti-roll bars, I'm assuming).

I have H&R ARB/sway bars on the Spyder and run -2.4 camber front & back. The car turns very well... maybe too well. Now it wants to oversteer if I push it (read: spin ). H&R front bar is same diameter as stock (24 mm) and it's not adjustable - a big problem. H&R Spyder rear bar is much thicker than stock (26 vs. 22 mm) and is only 2-way adjustable.

Long story short, I'd recommend adjustable sway bars (GT3, Tarrett, RSS, etc.). Front bar will require aftermarket drop links (not needed with H&R bar). I have my H&R rear on the soft setting to try and dial out some of the oversteer, but it's not enough. I need an adjustable front sway bar to stiffen up the front end, in turn inducing understeer/reducing oversteer. Keeping an eye out for a used one for a good price!

Thanks, vet! Don't worry, I'm still keeping the spyder and will continue to track it. Would be fun to see you out at Laguna sometime!

u need stiffer bar: yes.
will arb change camber: well, not so this case. i would run a LOT more camber, a LOT more.
you get some R6, bring car to my warehosue. we tow it up. then you will be hooked on drugs forever.

you do all my video editing.
