Default Making my car sound louder

Hello all,

I was looking at options on how to make my car sound louder and a little faster and I happened to chance upon this forum as one of my searches.

I have no experience whatsoever with cars and I am not attempting to DIY. I have a 2010 boxster and I think it is a 987? I tried searching for the model number of my car and the closest I could get to is that it is a 987310 but I would like to verify if I am in the right subforum.

An option that someone I spoke to gave me was that I could remove my catalytic converter, which sounds very illegal to me cause he mentioned that the check engine light would remain on. This option is too scary for me.

I am looking for an alternative that will not get me in trouble, and hopefully my car will sound much more powerful than it does now. I was also told I could replace my exhaust or change my catalytic converter/muffler which would be less expensive than replacing the whole system? Should I swap the whole exhaust? or would replacing the muffler and catalytic converter suffice? I am completely clueless as to what I should do to achieve what I want.

Thank you all for your time taken in reading my post. Feel free to point me in the right direction or educate me on anything I need to know to get myself started.

You're in the right forum. Welcome. You are looking for a catback exhaust (replace everything behind the main catalytic converter, which includes muffler and some piping). You're options are:

1) OEM sport exhaust. louder, OEM, and will have a button to make the exhaust louder.
2) aftermarket: Many manufacturers out there. Do a search on them. I think tubi sounds the best. I have the remus. It's nice, but it could be louder.

Yes, yours is a 987.2, technially. Updated rendition of the 987. It has 4 Cats on it, I believe. 2 on the headers and 2 on the exhaust itself. You can remove the 2 on the exhaust without causing any Check engine lights to come on. However, the Cat is integrated into the muffler system so you need to replace the whole exhaust with what's called, a Catback exhaust. Fabspeed.com has a catback system for about $1700 that will make your car louder and provide probably a little HP bump.

Tubi sounds awesome! especially at higher revs. but at cruising rpms there might be some drone. i myself got a tubi recently. however A P2198 CEL light came up as well recently. seems like bad oxygen sensor though. so there are some pros and cons.

Late to the game here..

Yes, what you want is a catback exhaust. Eliminates the 2 rear cats (catalytic converters) with freer-flowing mufflers. Also saves weight (unless you go with OEM PSE).

I have 987.2 FVD Brombacher exhaust that will fit your Gen 2 Boxster.

I think he wants the Fabspeed, like the one you replaced the FVD with. BTW, I just installed the Fabspeed on my spyder last weekend and I am still smiling a week later!! I was able to score a new one on ebay for under $1200:

Yes, Fabspeed Race is awesome. The drone will take getting used to, but if you want loud & aggressive, Fabspeed Race Exhaust is the way to go. I'm glad you like it as well, jvmax.

Just remember a remus on 987.1 is much louder than a remus on a 987.2.

The Race exhaust sounds great but it is on the aggressive side, so if your not looking for something too loud, check out our Maxflo mufflers. They are a direct bolt on replacement for the stock exhaust. Ours eliminates the stock 2ndary unnecessary cats so the car picks up some HP and has a nice sporty and refined sound. If you later decide you want more sound, you can always add our Headers with Sport Cats which increase the sound some more and keep the car emissions compliant. We have the muffler systems in stock and ready to go.

PM me if you have any questions and for special member pricing.
Thanks,

Thank you Alex. Could I just add the headers with Sports Cats to my existing Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE)?

Yes, absolutely. That way you don't lose the great functionality of the PSE muffler, you just improve the sound of it even more and also increase the HP and TQ of the car. Your existing oxygen sensors will go right into the new headers and the car will run great.

Yes, you can. EDIT: oops, posted a little too late.

for Fabspeed, especially the race exhaust. It's not for everyone, but it's simply glorious outside of drone zone.
