The interior of the new boxster looks much improved as does the front end in my opinion.
From a distance the car looks very similar...but the closer you get the more you can see that this is a very different car.

If you ask me they made the car too busy. I miss the clean lines of the 986, however I do like the interior of the 987. The exterior just looks too much like a toyota MR2 spyder to me.

Let's just say, I was all set to buy an S2000...I wasn't even considering a 986 Boxster. Porsche did SOMETHING right to convince me to cough up the extra $35k...double what an S2K would have cost me (Boxster S configured the way I want).

It all depends on how you interpret "different", but from my perspective, yes, it's a different car.
