Interesting. It is shocking that the turbo 4 somehow gets worse fuel economy than the H6, not that fuel economy matters to me or most of us. I agree with the result, that the 718 is better than the TT. Also odd that they complain about the lag but not sound, though. When I drove the 718S I found the lag to be very minimal, but I personally didn't like the noises it made. The variable vane turbos have very low lag IMO.

This test shows how big of a role the transmission plays. The PDK cars have ran a full half second faster than that to 60. This test was about the same as the 981S performance, coincidentally.

Ha! That old Porsche black magic. Reminds me of what a devoted Corvette owner always concludes after getting out of a Porsche with with 50-100 less horsepower. Hard to quantify the feeling one gets in the Porsche.

I will give Audi kudos for their interiors, however.

I am surprised they gave the 718 such low numbers for interior, fit and finish and ergonomics vs a 10 for the Audi. The Audi interiors are nice but I though the 718's interior was very well done. You have to admit the TT's 1/4 mile is impressive and they call the sound of the 718 is like a goblin ?? I am not a fan but a goblin?

Both get a 10 for fuel economy and I found the lag to be quite apparent. Nothing like my 964T or 955TT by any means but was the first thing I noticed. I could care less about PDK numbers I will always opt for the manual although it is perfect for my Macan.

I thought the most interesting part were the number scores on the last page. For a car that was/is vilified for it's sound and soul, they gave it a 25 out of 25 for fun. The Audi only got a 22. There's also a couple other areas I thought were surprising, e.g. NVH. Saw more than one person complain about that on the 718 in the past. I have one on order, so as I wait, I enjoy any signs that the hate is abating or as I, like to think of it, some people are coming to their senses regarding the whole package and putting things into perspective.

As I have mentioned before, the whole "sound and soul" gripe doesn't apply just to Porsche. If you look at many of the reviews over the past couple years, including the new Ford GT, you see the same gripe. It seems reviewers have run out of performance complaints with many modern cars but still feel the need to say something pithy and witty. You'll see the "sound and soul" refrain has been beaten to death if you watch enough Youtube reviews and it is hardly "718" centric.

Wish my car would get here...more driving...less surfing!

Signs of the time no doubt.

It is amazing how cheap speed is becoming. I guess we have to prepare for the E cars soon enough. When you think of the performance level increase you get for the same price today vs a 911 from the 90's it says a lot about what todays technology can do. I just don't know where it will stop. They claim the suspension on the new GT3 RS is going to step it up a full notch. Brings new meaning to driving on rails.

"But speaking of sounds, oh, the Porsche’s. Rest in peace, flat-six, and long live the turbo four! The more time we spend with 718s—and the further into memory that six’s wail fades—the more we like the four."

Car and Driver, who are you kidding?? Everyone agrees there is no comparison soundwise between the N/A six and the turbo four. Is the CS a better car? In certain respects absolutely - steering, braking etc., but NOT sound.

Precisely. Reviewers, like consultants -- always need to find something.

Have not been impressed with Audi interiors lately

That doesn't surprise me at all. Even if you hate the sound, the 718 is obviously going to be fun to drive. And Audi's are rarely fun to drive once the road turns curvy, particularly when compared against a Porsche. In a straight line, sure, but not overall.

Audi interiors have followed the same path as BMW’s newer products, bland. Personally I think Porsche’s interior looks superior, has a better layout and utilizes superior materials regardless of full leather or not. I’m a bit miffed that Car and Driver thought the opposite.
