Default 981 Spyder for $80K in some publication...

What happened to that thread wherein someone posted about the recent listing of a 981 Spyder for $80K? It's appears to be gone. I was wondering what that publication was. I read it at the dealer one day and it had a very extensive classified section.

This publication was more like a newspaper than a magazine (cheap paper versus shiny magazine stock). And it had far more classified ads in it than what I saw in my first issue of Panorama that arrived yesterday.

Then it was in Panorama as well, because I saw it there when I read the last issue. Had to be a story with the car.

It was from Panorama. Deleted because it had personal information and only available to PCA members.

It wouldn't surprise me if the current BaT 981 spyder goes for around that.

That auction could be very telling on the market for these cars, perhaps only mitigated by the 20K miles on it. The color combo is very high on the list of many lookers, I would think. At least I like it.
I have it bookmarked.
My personal feeling is if they announce the 718 will be a 4.0, I think prices (for people who want/need to sell) will soften for the 981 since lots of new money/cash buyers will be chasing after the available allocations for the latest and greatest (perhaps including me).
I’m still not wild about the PORSCHE across the rear deck.

Very desirable car. Mileage will be the tell.

The car on BAT isn't going to go anywhere near MSRP with that many miles. I'd guess $80-$85k-ish.

Agreed. I would have figured 10% under MSRP (so above $90k still for this one) with 20k mileage but it's winter, 991.2 GT3 with manuals are out, and 4.0 rumors are swirling. I suppose 20k mileage for a GT car is high though. Mine has 9590 on it but I'm only adding a hundred a month or so.... it'll take me 9 years to get to that mark.

Wonder what 987.2 Spyder with manual and buckets would go for with similar mileage. Thought I saw ~75% or so of original sticker.

Autocar UK reported today that all future GT cars (yes even the GT3) will all be turbo. So.....there's definitely rumor going around for either direction. It's way too early to assume the next car is going to be a 4.0 - I think the assumption that it will be is making this market vary incredibly.

What we need to do is objectively look at the car for what it is. Less than 800 examples in the States and essentially a car you can't buy for less than double the price from another manufacturer. Prices on these coming down would be a mistake by any seller. Just my 2 cents. I've no plans on "trading up" - not trying to get caught up in that Porsche trap of "onto the next one" mentality. It's a sickness among the GT-car owners for many.

^^^^^ this
I am building a collection and I am trying to get off the hamster wheel to replace amazing cars with newer amazing cars. I plan on keeping my GT3RS and Spyder - two fabulous cars that I enjoy every chance I can.
The new model might be better in some ways, but it is hard to imagine selling my already terrific cars...the differences and real-world improvements would seem to be incremental.

^^^^^ The two cars you mention are beautiful and you would regret you sold them. I agree on the incremental improvements will not noticeable by many, and for the Spyder you can’t improve on those lines.

Miss my 987 Boxster S and have been stalking Spyders ever since. Curious to see how the BaT auction ends. Wondering if a base 981 Boxster with sport suspension may not be more fun on backroads as it would allow for more shifts and higher revs at reasonable speeds.
