Thanks for the help everyone. I decided to grab the S and start there. Spyders don't exactly seem to be rare on the used market, so if I want one, I figure it will be available at some point.
The car isn't 100% pristine, and that was factored into the price. A curb rash on the front bumper (probably one of those wheel stops that rises just above the height of the front bumper), and a nice scratch on the rear bumper from an abandoned shopping cart, in addition to the dealer-installed front plate holes (which have since been plugged: what Porsche dealer does this? It was sold CPO!) I can get those touched up Other than that, she is VERY clean, never seen a car wash, and most importantly, FUN. For some reason, the original owner dumped the 20's and installed 19's however...he gave the 20's away on CL for free. It is lacking a bit of presence with those factory 19's installed.
I will go the Fabspeed Header and tune route first, and look for some better wheels. It is a much more reasonable purchase than the Spyder. I can pay cash for this without stressing. Spyder would be financed for at least a couple of years, and doesn't have the same peace of mind.
I will post pics soon!

^^ Good choice. 981S with X73 and 22k miles for $39k is hard to pass up. That's a lot of car for the money. I know Cobb seems to be the ticket here in the US but I'd pass and move on to FVD Brombacher in Germany for a tune. They are true Porsche specialists and ensure the safety of the motor comes first. For $1300 including 2 BMC filters you're up to 352 hp. If you add things like headers, full exhaust, plenums, GT3 throttle body, etc. later on they update your software for free. As many times as needed. Having lived in Germany, I trust German engineers far more especially when it comes to reliability. I'm just waiting for my Spyder's warranty to expire, then it's FVD and 412 hp! I'll leave the rest alone.

Negative! They also have a location in Florida. But your tune comes from Germany after you send them a download from your ECU. I should have mentioned they'll update your software for free when buying parts from them. When it comes to things like exhaust parts theirs are better than what you'll find in the US, but some are pricey, but not everything. You get what you pay for.
