Interesting discussion. Would need some seat time again in a 991.2 to confirm my opinion, but did feel the 718 had a more appealing soul in spite of the fewer cylinders. And I know I’ve beaten this drum before but I don’t understand people getting their knickers in a twist re that. Ducatis have two cylinders while most of their competitors have four. Do we hear anyone saying they won’t pay £$XX,000 for a Panigale because it’s a twin?
Of course, now the Panigale has gone to the V4 configuration. (I had the 1199R but have since sold it.) I think as with many motorcycles and numbers of cylinders, the appeal of the flat 6 is the rhythm with which those cylinders pound out their note. I love the thump of a WRX flat four boxer, but the howl of a flat six beats it every time. I take no issue with how fantastically I'm sure the 718 drives, but since we're talking about sound and soul, put me in the N/A flat six club.
