981 Spyder - Tire hop or scrub in tight turns - ?
I searched and found nothing. My car's front tires hop/scrub during low speed tight turns. Standard operating procedure, I presume, due to a tight turning radius?

Normal. Nothing to worry about and it's due to the steering setup/characteristics.
It gets worse as the tires age and when it's cold but you can safely ignore it.

Ha! Glad I read this thread. My BMW does this when I back out of my parking space at work. Was driving me crazy. I got out several times looking for a rock (acorn!) or something I'd run over. Now I know.

Google Ackermann steering geometry.
Specifically, from the wikipedia entry:
Specifically, from the wikipedia entry:
Some racing cars use reverse Ackermann geometry to compensate for the large difference in slip angle between the inner and outer front tyres while cornering at high speed. The use of such geometry helps reduce tyre temperatures during high-speed cornering but compromises performance in low-speed manoeuvres.[

Pirelli P zeros? I had them on my Cayenne GTS and my Boxster GTS and had this problem with both. swapped them out to Michelin MPS2's and the problem is gone. I hate P zeros. The Pirelli's also heat cycled out after only 4k miles combined street with around 1000 of that as track miles.

Spyder came with N1 Pzero - much better. Will be swapping to MPSS as soon as I can though.
